Nissan to skip 2010 Detroit auto show

Automaker to miss event again.

Alisa Priddle - The Detroit News - Feb. 27, 2009

I don't know if cutting your advertising is a good idea. --Ed.

Nissan Motor Co.'s pared-down list of auto shows it will attend in its next fiscal year means the Japanese automaker will not return to Detroit in 2010, having already passed on this year's North American International Auto Show.

But Detroit is not alone. Nissan plans to skip as many major auto shows as it attends in the 2009 fiscal year that runs from April 1 through March 31, 2010, and a further 60 regional shows also are affected.

"Nissan by no means was targeting to be, or not to be, in Detroit," said Nissan spokesman Scott Vazin. The automaker blames "severe and prolonged headwinds throughout the world," and cites the need to use its dwindling resources prudently.

In North America, it will have a presence at the New York auto show in April, but will skip the Los Angeles show in November. And in addition to skirting Detroit next January, it will not have a stand at the Chicago show in February 2010. After Nissan announced it would not be in Detroit and Chicago in 2009, a coalition of dealers tried to step in to fill the void. The automaker asked the dealers to stop their efforts in Detroit, but a coalition of Chicago area Nissan/Infiniti dealers made a showing of Nissan and Infiniti vehicles in the Windy City. [Read More]

Re: Nissan to skip 2010 Detroit auto show

Hi Aether Glider:

___Nissan was reporting exports out of Japan off in the 50 and 60% range a few days ago. This is worse than GM right now... They (Nissan) are in crisis mode right now and cutting ad space and costs is the least they are going to have to do to come out of this alive.

___Good Luck

___Wayne
