Does Insight-II's IMA Run on Battery Alone?

I was fortunate enough to get a GREAT presentation on the differences between the Synergy Drive and the IMA at HybridFest 2007. I am confused now that someone over at MotorTrend (Edward Loh) has seemingly said that the Insight-II can be drive SOLELY on battery similar to Synergy Drive???
