Smile Grampa says "Hi" and wants car recommendations

Good morning from Wisconsin - enjoying indian summer for one more day!

I own a 2005 VW Passat wagon TDI with auto. Before that a 2007 Fit with manual. Although I love the comfort of the TDI, I miss the convenience of the Fit's cargo area. I have a small dog who had NO problems jumping into the back with the seats down. The main criticism of my Fit was the poor driving position. I have long legs, short arms. I needed the telescoping steering wheel.

I am a very conservative driver who does 18K miles/year, 80% at 55-60mph on highways. Am getting 40.1 MPG on my TDI.

Anyway, I am seriously considering selling the TDI to buy another Fit, the 2009 Sport.

A couple of questions:

1. With my mix of driving, it sounds like the auto trans might be the right call. Thoughts?

2. Is stabillity control worth getting the navi?

What kind of MPG should I be able to achieve in the Fit?

Thanks, and hello.

Pete
