New to trying Hypermiling

Hello everyone,
Just joined the site today. I found this site through a Terrapass news letter article on the "Death of the Hummer" (I hate those things). I have been trying to get better mileage out of my 2000 VW Jetta 2.0L 5 spd. for years, (Probably my bad driving habits or in too much of a hurry) But I'm ready to change that with the gas prices today. (I remember the day of a $25 tank ~ now try +$50.) My Jetta has over 150,000 miles, which I drive about 20,000 per year. It adds up.
I have been getting around 23 to 25mpg in city driving a with any luck can get 30 mpg on the highway. Hopefully I can implement the techniques listed here on the site and improve my MPG. I have already upped the tire pressure yesterday to the max and it felt like it had less roll resistance today. (or it was just psychological)
Any words of advice for newbies or any improvement stats for my vehicle?

Re: New to trying Hypermiling

Hello and welcome to the club.

You should start by knowing your car’s EPA rating located at FuelEconomy.gov

Also, consider purchasing a ScanGaugeII. It is an invaluable source of information and will quickly pay for itself in fuel savings.

However, please be careful as hypermiling is addictive.
