1500 mile vacation to smoky mountains in black pearl
i will be going on vacation to gatlinburg,tn in the black pearl and if yall want i can post pics of mpgs and attractions and beautiful scenery, maxxmpg will be helping me so i would like to thank chris b now, ill be traveling approximately 1500 miles round trip give or take a 100, and ill have my new 2012 hyundai accent loaded with gear and 5 people, for eight days, so im sure ill get on my kids nerves with my jfk assassination flashdrives or my living on earth environmental podcast. This will not be an all out fuel mileage run, but i should have some real world numbers! Gatlinburg can be extremely busy with traffic so im interested to see what the pearl will do with three screaming kids in back! Ill start sending pics and info to maxxmpg next wednesday july18
so stay tuned, i dont have a scanguage, but i know my rpm ranges,my tires will have 44-45 lbs in them all around let me know if there are any certain pics of area yall want!

Re: 1500 mile vacation to smoky mountains in black pearl
First report from the road...
2012 Hyundai Accent

Almost 50mpg while covering over 200 miles at 55-60mph, with five aboard with full luggage!
Troy adds:
Quote:
|
47.9 mpgs actual, i am a little dissappointed fcd is 3.1 mpgs over
|
I am guessing that he's not correcting the odometer mileage, and therefore the true number would be closer to 49.5-ish and the aFCD is only under by 1.5mpg. That's not bad at these lofty numbers. The car is likely at or just over gvwr, heading toward hilly terrain, and still 20% over EPA.

Re: 1500 mile vacation to smoky mountains in black pearl
Did that 47.9 (49.5 corrected?) mpg run include significant elevation gain?
Have fun!

Re: 1500 mile vacation to smoky mountains in black pearl
I'm not sure about elevation, but he (Troy) said he was about 200 miles out, which suggests to me that he was near Gadsden, AL, based on the Google Map's route between Meridian, MS and Gaitlinburg, TN. Meridian appears to be about 300 feet above sea level, and Gadsden is about 600 feet, so he's up a good 300 feet. And we're not sure how many hills were encountered along the way, but the Google terrain map shows it to be fairly gentle slopes along the way.
Also, I'm guessing at the odometer correction based on the error on my Elantra's odometer. His Accent may be a bit closer to 'true', although he'd still likely be over 49mpg actual.

SORRY CLEAN MPG AND CHRIS/maxxmpg i should have explained my trip today was not the start of my vacation but a 200 mile round trip visit to a friends house in pearl,ms with nothing but me in car!

I used 10% ethanol gas from sams club! AGAIN IM SORRY FOR CONFUSION IT WAS MY FAULT, ILL TRY TO EXPLAIN MYSELF BETTER! I leave on wednesday july 18 at 5-6 am central time

That clarifies things a bit. When I saw 51.0 on the picture you sent and you had suggested that you'd be sending photos of the trip, I plugged it all in as "on the road toward TN". Hitting the high 40s with five + baggage would make the Accent something of a superstar in PMPG, so I am glad you noted the different circumstances. When the car is loaded to the spring bumpers, I am thinking you'll still hold onto 40mpg, which is 200 PMPG.
