I would think so but I have heard that it is more difficult to hyper-mile this car? How do you like your new HCH3? H

Re: Scangauge 2012 HCH

This is is my opion from owning the car just 2 days. Why I bought the car and initial opinion.

I was driving an 07 Civic SI and getting 25-30 mpg. I looked at the HCH and the HF. I bought the car at $4,000 under MSRP, 20,,6XX. I did the math on trading my car in and (Car Payment minus savings for fuel) would be about $75 per month. Financed at the Honda 0.9%. So I went from a 5 year old 124,000 mile car to a new car with warranty for $75 per month. That is pretty good in my book. I also did the math with an HF and it came out to about $45 per month. So, the HF would have been a better deal. The $3,000 difference in car cost wouldn't be offset by the savings in fuel. In appearance inside and out the cars are almost exactly the same. The HF is "faster" but the base HCH has blue tooth for phone.

I am not thru my first tank of gas, but am currently averaging over 51 mpg on the readout on the dash with 200 miles on the car.

I have read all of the terrible reviews about the new civic. This is my opnion of them.
1. Reviews say it rides rough. - It rides fine to me. It is rougher than a Kia Forte, but I believe it handles better than the Kia.
2. Reviews say it has a lot of road noise. - There is nothing out of the ordinary to me.
3. Reviews say cheep interior materials. - I agree the texture of the dash is definitly a down grade from the last models. It doesn't have the chromed pastic trim pieses the newer other compact cars has.
4. Reviews say the HCH is slow. - Yes it is. It is supposed to be. If the HCH is too slow buy the HF.

You can probably take that number to the bank. With the HCHII at least, Honda's displayed mpg tended to be honest, even pessimistic. And the first tankful invariably includes some pointless idling at the dealerhip, so likely second tank will be better.

Re: Scangauge 2012 HCH

I looked at the 2012 and I thought it was a very well appointed auto. Pump your tires to 40lbs ft. and 38 r. for starters. Tires will wear better and the car will cost much better. There is a review of the 2012 HCH by exel on this site. I believe he had it for a wk.. I average about 55 mpg and have been as high as 75mpg on some trips. I believe the the HCH3 should give much better FE than the HCH2! Not many folks are purchasing Hybrids from Honda and I believe the reason is the problems Honda has had with the packs in many of the HCH2. I like my 2006 model and plan on keeping it. It is a very thrifty car for me. H

Re: Scangauge 2012 HCH

I pumped my tires up. The car definitly gets better mpg on the highway than the city. I am trying to figure out how to drive it in the city.

Did you check out xcel's evaluation or test report on the 2012 HCH3? You will find it interesting. H

Re: Scangauge 2012 HCH

I just read excel's evaluation. You are right it is interesting. He describes it right. I am used to a manual where you have complete control of what the motor is doing. Right now, it seem to get the best mpg with just using the cruise control and letting the car do what it wants. I an trying to learn how to beat the cruise control mpg.

Re: Scangauge 2012 HCH

Today, I tried driving with load and have been averaging 52 mpg. I am tyring to keep the pedal pushed only far enought so the car only uses the gas engine. If I let off any, it goes into electric only if I press any, it adds the electric motor.

While doing this, I pick up speed going down hills and slow down going up hills.

This seems that it works pretty well. I just need to do this for a whole tank. Still trying...
