Inside perspective on oil reserves

An interesting article written by a geologist on the concepts of peak oil, oil reserves, and the future of energy and petrochemicals in this country and others.

My apologies if this has already been posted; I hadn't seen it here yet.

Re: Inside perspective on oil reserves

He is right on the increasing costs and the end of cheap oil. Problem is the earth can't replace the oil at the rate we are pumping it out of the ground. So unless we find away to eliminate say four billion people we are going to see higher and higher energy costs.

If you think it is bad here look at a developing country and the increasing energy costs taking an even bigger chunk out of their economies. Governments who rely heavily on fuel taxation for revenue are going to be really screwed in the long run. Problem for them is humans are very innovative and adaptable. Look at what is happening here in the U.S. with our gasoline usage down 10% over the last five or so years. Anyone want to put up any money on another drop of ten percent over the next five to seven years?

Re: Inside perspective on oil reserves

Its a doomer article but it does cover the basics. Dont worry, the era of cheap oil has ended but at $100 a barrel oil companies will drill on Titan if they have to. The average car bought today says 24mpg combined on the sticker.. there is still room for lots of improvement.

For those of that are truly worried, buy TWO Leafs and install 3.3kW of solar panels at your home.. charge one while you drive the other

Re: Inside perspective on oil reserves

Compare a gallon of gas to the price of a gallon of distilled water. Seems pretty cheap if you don't use it like water.
