Week of Feb 26th - Mar 4th, 2007
About an inch of slushy snow on the ground and plenty in the air this morning. Forget about TCC lock...most of the time traffic was moving around 30, so I just feathered the gas and pulled a FAS where I could. Traffic was heavy on the expressway, the slow lane was covered with snow and speeds varied widely.
27.8 MPG for the first 1.7 miles, 39.2 for the rest; total was 37.5 MPG for 15.5 miles at 31°F. Not the greatest, but still better than EPA highway. Tank's still above 40, at 40.6.

Re: Week of Feb 26th - Mar 4th, 2007
2-3" of fluffy white snow at my location, which has formed a browny-red slush all over the roads. Once again not one ounce of trouble from the Prius, even in my un-plowed parking lot. I gave it a little too much accelerator from one particular stop sign and it stuttered a little, but as soon as it backed off the throttle enough to stop the spin it reapplied power untill slippage begane again. Rinse and repeat until speed is gained...really cool.
Oh, right...FE. Left with 47.8mpg on the tank and got in with 48.0mpg showing. Speeds were very low (20-30mph for 3/4 of the ride) so I kept working the EV switch once it was up to temp. That thing was well worth the money I paid for it.

I left a couple minutes late this morning and got stuck in traffic (read idiot drivers). I managed 56.2 MPG at 36ºF.

After 15 inches of wet snow over the weekend, the roads are clear and just a little damp.
30 miles coming in to work at 30 degrees.

Re: Week of Feb 26th - Mar 4th, 2007
As Eric mentioned, over a foot of wet slushy stuff this weekend. A few short trips which were fine (aside from the MPG hit) except that on the way back from one I managed to get beached at the end of my driveway. Ran the SOC down to 4 rocking it back and forth to get unstuck after shoveling myself out. It's almost spring!
This morning, 7.0 miles / 55.6 MPG (starting SOC: 4, roads mostly clear but wet, 30F). Tank avg sitting at 61.2 with 5 pips remaining.

Wet slushy stuff here as well. Still in the low 40s for mileage.

Re: Week of Feb 26th - Mar 4th, 2007
Went down to our other facility...roads were wet but clear, snow was in the air on the way down. I just mostly DWL'd at a constant TPS of 17, FASing for interchanges and a couple of long, steep dowhills. No drafting -- there was a lot of salt on the roads, and I didn't want a chunk taking out my windshield.
43.1 MPG for 33.7 miles at 36°F on the way down;
44.4 MPG for 33.0 miles at 33°F on the way back.
I'll need to check back through my previous logs to see if this is better or worse than drafting. I usually speed up to keep up with trucks while drafting, so it's tough to tell if there's any net benefit (other than getting there faster).
Edit: the averages were definitely better today than with drafting, although temps are also about 20-30°F higher today. Hard to tell.

Re: Week of Feb 26th - Mar 4th, 2007
New tank is at 67.3 after 100 miles. I had a lot of neighborhood (no highway) driving this weekend, and got 81 into work today. The odometer is approaching 4000 miles, and the temperatures are in the 70s. Either weather, or break in, or both is really, really helping.
This weekend I have a 250 mile highway trip, so the mileage will drop. Hopefully I can keep the tank above 60.
I had to use the AC Sunday because full blast vent just wasn't quite enough with the heat. Oh boy. AC hit will start in March, and last until November. I'll still take the heat versus April Fools Day 1997 3 feet New England snow storms though
How hot can it get down here? The all time high in Austin was 113 in 2000. That's not a Phoenix dry 113. That's a Houston/Miami/New York/Boston humid 113. People were walking around town gingerly, like they were walking on ice or something. "Must conserve energy to avoid heat stroke.........." Down here the ICE has to cool down to reach peak operating temperature in August
