New in HCH
Dear Friends,
I am new member of this forum and I just got a HCH 2006. I would like to ask you how many liters of oil need the car, there is a difference with the oil filter and without the filter when doing the oil change. Also would like to ask you what is the FRAM oil filter part number for the Honda Civic Hybrid or from any other brand.
Thank you so much for all your help and asistance.
With kind regards,
Pawkar

Re: New in HCH
Hello Pawkar,
Congrats on the new car. The oil fill is 3L (3.2 quarts). That includes the filter. Some members of this forum run less than a full oil level. I've heard of people filling the oil to the bottom of the normal range so there is less oil splashing on the crank causing extra driveline drag. I split the difference and fill the oil halfway between FULL and ADD.

Don't stop at the low mark on the dip stick!!! That's too close to not enough. Mid way between the marks is what we recommend -- that is enough to reduce the internal drag without reducing the actual lubrication.

Re: New in HCH
I believe the fill-up with a filter is 3.4 ltr. in my 2006 HCH. I will check when my car comes home. I always use 3 ltrs. for A service or B service. Hal

Re: New in HCH
Do you have the Owners Manual? It's spec'd in there, on page 191, at least the with-filter-change quantity. Anyway, the spec. is:
With filter change:
3.2 liters, or 3.4 US quarts
Without filter change:
3.0 liters, or 3.2 US quarts
The drain bolt torque spec is: 29 lb/ft
Harold has a trick which I've adopted, which is to drain and re-install the filter at oil changes that don't spec. filter change (Service A).
As far as using less than "full" amount, Honda's guidance is to get the oil somewhere between the two dipstick marks, which represent a difference of about 1 liter (or quart). Anywhere in that range is fine, the two marks represent the max and min levels. There's nothing better about the max line, in fact it is more prone to reducing mileage and causing frothing.
My take: I use 3 liters at every change, with/without filter change. I'm within spec., closer to the max line, and don't have to fiddle around with partial bottles. My pref. is to purchase Honda oil and filter (plus the aluminum washer on the drain bolt).

Re: New in HCH
Dear Friends,
I would like to thank you so much for all your advice and information, unfortunately I do not have the manual and that is why I do not have a clue about maintenance of the car, I would like to ask you what is the interval of oil change with 0W 20, I would think like 30,000 Km, is not cheap oil and looks super synthetic. I am going to follow the advice of Mendel since I do not like half bottles isues. Harold, Hunter and Overholt thank you so much for your information and Hunter would be more easy to get the Fram filter than the original Honda and cheaper as well, not many cars are going around over here.
Hope everyone will have a nice weekend.
Warm regards,
Pawkar

Re: New in HCH
I just tested the file and it downloaded well. Anyone else care to confirm?
I would suggest trying again with another browser, perhaps?
