Crazy Drivers
I was merging onto I-93 this morning when the SUV behind swung out to pass me in the left lane (crossing the solid white lines). He almost caused a pileup because there were cars in the left lane and he had to swerve back in behind me. He took the next exit and sped up on the off ramp up to at least 65 MPH, passing me while I was still on the highway. I was going 55 in a 55 zone the whole time.
Crazy driving for a 1 mile trip on the interstate. Do hypermilers see a lot of this?

Re: Crazy Drivers
I would guess a fair amount since most of us are being more observant than the average driver because we taking driving seriously. There aren't too many hypermilers out there that don't know what is 100 feet in front and behind and what cars are in the other lanes.

Re: Crazy Drivers
Every day. I have always been cognizant of aggressive drivers, but it seems to get more exciting when one makes an attempt to drive legally. I've been passed in exactly the same way (in the exit lane a few times, once or twice in the breakdown lane) and I can never figure out how they justify it.
We aren't alone, though. Truckers seem to get just as annoyed at this crap, and with good reason! They don't have the luxury of being able to stop short or make a quick maneuver to keep from getting hit. I hear a lot of air horns in this area.

Re: Crazy Drivers
ALL the time. To keep my throttle sensor at a less than 25% for optimum FE while accelerating, it apparently isn't fast enough.
The worst was driving 57 in a 70 for a few hundred miles. Horns, fingers, and tractor-trailers cutting me off. It wasn't worth it, although I got almost 50 mpg in an ICE car that averages 31.
In daily driving, I've found if you ignore the crazies, life's better.

Re: Crazy Drivers
Yes, yes, and YES.
It absolutely annoys me, and what's worse- some of these aggressive drivers are being extremely dangerous when they do it.
I've switched from driving the highway to work, to just back roads, because I don't have to go as fast (and, it's actually 4 miles shorter.) It doesn't bother me, it only takes me about 3 minutes longer to get to work.
On my route, there are 3 schools- one elementary school, one community college, and one middle school, and of course, the speed limit is 25 mph in the areas of each of those schools. On two different days last week, I had two different drivers, cross the double-yellow lane, right in FRONT of one of the schools, in order to pass me- and I was even going 30 mph - 5 mph over the limit. It wouldn't bother me so much, if it weren't for the fact that schools around here have either gone back in session, or are going to be in the next few weeks, so they're not just risking their life, my life, and anyone coming down the road in the other lane, but any kids that might be crossing the street.
I wouldn't dare get one of those "I get 60mpg, you?" bumper stickers, but I wish I could figure out how to shorten "Follow me for a week, and see how much gas you save" to fit on one.

Re: Crazy Drivers
It happens daily.
Part of it is just Dallas, the other part is me going under the speed limit while the majority wants to go over it.
Don't you wish local reporters interview these drivers so they could let the metro area they have issues?

I also see that one often, like they're saying "Look at me, I can go faster" as if that's impressive.
Summer before last the freeway was clogged so us locals exited and took the side roads.
Behind me was an old, dirty maintenance challenged 4WD bronco.
I was following the car ahead of me- but the teenager behind didn't like the traffic buffer I set up. We came by a very long Right turn lane which he jumped right in and floored it as if to pass.
I backed off the gas a little so he could slip in front without incident:
To my suprise he swung his wheels quick & hard to make a Right turn...he was right along side me and I saw him skid across this road, his Left front wheel hit the curb sideways and the tire came off- he jumped the curb across a line of bushes and hit a fire hydrant.
I didn't see any water sprayng but bet that cost him.
Bet he won't do that again!

Re: Crazy Drivers
My worst crazy criver incident occurred at 5AM on I-26 near Asheville, NC when I was driving along at 55MPH in a 60MPH speed zone with very light traffic. Up behind me comes a Con-Way semi in my lane and along side him a car in the inner lane. As the car passes me in the left lane, the semi moves into the emergency lane and starts passing me on my right. Then when he got about half of his trailer past me, he starts pulling over into my lane. Fortunately by that time the car was ahead of me so I was able to move into the inner lane to avoid the shifting semi. The final straw in this potential catastrophe was another 300 feet further down the road, where a 6X6X8' board lay in the emergency lane that the trunk would most likely have sent flying up into the air if it had driven over it.

Re: Crazy Drivers
The funny thing is, some impatient bozo passes me with a full throttle run. Guess what, most of the time, who do you think I glide up next to at the next traffic light?

Re: Crazy Drivers
In the last five years, Texas has had double the arrests of speeders going over 95mph.
