All my Car Mods for MPG - anything else?

I just wanted to write a quick post about all the mods I've completed on my 1996 Honda Accord. I know some of these are questionable about their effectiveness, but I've use them anyways and achieved 43.6mpg on my last tank. Here goes -

Tires @ 60psi
No Power Steering Belt
Removed everything I didn't need in interior (radio, carpet, speakers, etc)
PCV Valve plugged and added breather for crankcase
No A/C (compressor removed, no condeser, no fan, no plumbing, etc)
Removed all trunk items (carpet, spare tire, jack and everything else)
Super Strong magnets on fuel line (I know....)
Warm Air Intake (intake taking air off exhaust manifold, no heat shield on manifold)
Lowered hood and trunk by removing rubber stops and lowering both mounts
0w-30 Mobil 1 in engine and 5w-30 Mobil 1 in transmission
Removed the little filters in the fuel injectors (supposed to shorten injector duration)
Removed everything from under the car, (tow mounts, exhaust heat shields)
Scraped off all the sound deading matrial from inside the car and in the trunk (50lbs or so)
Cut off rear middle seat belt (NEVER used it, so I got rid of it)
Added Energy Suspension sway bar bushings, end links, motor mount insert
10ga wires added everywhere to inprove grounding points (idle much improved)
Grill blocking in front of radiator on intake side

I guess I need a Scangauge...

Any other ideas or suggestions?

Modify the driver . But you really need a ScanGauge to do that.

Re: All my Car Mods for MPG - anything else?

I have done none of that except for the PSI pump-up. i have achieved up to 77 mpg on a 36 mile run with cleanmpg techniques alone. (Ihave a car with a combined EPA rating of 23 for the 2008 ratings)

I think it is great that you are so serious about saving fuel, but I do know the scanguage is essential to you getting much higher numbers. I agree with lightfoot. You must modify the driver to the absolute extent possible because that is where your biggest mpg gain is hiding-and a scanguage is the ultimate way to help you increase your skills. Congratulations on your success so far.

Re: All my Car Mods for MPG - anything else?

You could also try some aero mods and air dams...

Re: All my Car Mods for MPG - anything else?

I'm guessing you do mostly city driving, based on how… conscientious you are about weight. If your driving is mostly highway, you'll see some benefits from reduced rr, but you'll really want to focus on aeromods. What's your average speed when you're driving, usually?

A mudflap delete is a good start.

Re: All my Car Mods for MPG - anything else?

I also got rid of the mud flaps. And yes, it's almost all city driving. I try to keep the speed with the engine on under 50mph. If I'm gliding, I'll let it get as high as it will go, within reason. Speaking of weight, I also dropped a few pounds from, well, me. 195lbs down to 175lbs.

My next ideas include replacing my aging battery to a Optima Redtop, it's weight is 11lbs. lighter than the one I have now. And to get a set of slightly oversized tires to help lower the rpms at crusing speeds. I was thinking 195/65-R15 to replace a set of 185/65-R15. I know the idea is to go skinnier, but I couldn't find a set of 175's that would be oversized, (would need to be 175/75-R15). The tires I was looking at are the Goodyear Eagle LS-2 All Season tires, they are rated for 51psi and are a 2 pounds lighter per tire.

My goal is to hit 50mpg for a full tank average, with or without a scangauge. I think (hope) all these little changes put the chances in my favor for hitting my goal.

Aero-mods. See http://ecomodder.com/

Especially see the Aero Civic. Basjoos(a member here) achieved huge drops in highway mpg from his mods.

They just recently added a list of mods that you can do to your vehicle. Each mod has a general rating for price, effectiveness, and difficulty.
