2008 Yaris

I bought a 2008 Yaris in January. I now have 13000 miles on it. Originally I was running the speed limit on all roads, Interstate included and was getting 33-35 and was pretty disappointed. I was talked into dropping down to 65 on Interstate and keeping to the speed limit on side roads. My mileage jumped to a range of 38-43. I still use the ac, but keeping the rpms below 3k was a huge boost in my mileage.

Re: 2008 Yaris

Hi Yarisman, welcome to the site! Most people on the site try and keep their RPMs below 2500 at all times, you will definitely see a big gain if you do that. Most of those small cars are geared short for city driving, so they don't fair as well at highway speeds. Try keeping under 60 or even 55 mph on the interstate for a tank, you will see that it helps quite a bit. Check out Wayne's article Beating the EPA for a lot of ways to improve your mileage. You can start by making sure your tires are pumped up to sidewall pressure.

Good Luck!

Kirk

Re: 2008 Yaris

I aired up my tires to 40 psi and picked up 2 mpg, if you shut off the AC you'll pick up another 4 mpg...

Re: 2008 Yaris

Over the first 32,000 km's with our 2007 Yaris Sedan automatic I've got these results for mostly highway driving.

If you drive 120 km/h solid you will get just over 6.2l/100km or 37.94 US MPG
110 km/h will get you in the high 5.8l/100km or 40.55 US MPG
100km/h 5.2l/100km or 45.23 US MPG
90 km/h 4.8l/100km or 49 US MPG
80-90 km/h 4.5l/100km or 52.27 US MPG

These numbers are without using A/C 99% of the time, my tires are at 50 psi and I am very light on the gas, but that's all I do, nothing fancy. Drive defensive and conservatively.
