Re: Dallas to enforce five-minute idling restriction beginning April 1

I agree it is a good step as well. The optimist in me keeps hoping for the next
improvement. :) And of course, enforcement!

Massachusetts has an idle reduction law which I believe applies to all...

Re: Dallas to enforce five-minute idling restriction beginning April 1

No idle time restrictions on light vehicles? Too bad... much less than 5 minutes
for light vehicles would be good.

Re: DashGate Sends Tremors Through the Hypermiling community

I think so, too. That aside, what are the best lmpg out there? Imagine
being a perfect hypermiler right off the new car lot. It doesn't take much
to kill a good running average, e.g. a visit to...

Re: Is my Scan Gauge broken?

Definitely acting like a stuck upper right button... I don't see that it's easily
user correctable so I second Wayne's suggestion.

Re: hybrid minivan?

Didn't we already see that on one of the first Jerk of the Day posts? :)

I saw an older MPV today. It looked tiny compared to today's minivans.
I don't imagine those had very good mileage. I...

Re: The great hybrid advantage: Is Toyota unstoppable?

Donee, thanks for that link to the TRW origins of the power split device. Good
reading. I had heard that the invention itself predated Aisin by a long period of time.
Hmmm, which domestic automaker...

Re: hybrid minivan?

You're absolutely right. Not knowing what your specific needs are, I
was merely proposing a method to gather comparative data on the
various models. If a smaller vehicle has the right...

Re: Earth Hour – 1 hour of your life for the future of the planet

The absolute silence was fantastic, too. I was thankful when our Cocker Spaniel
started to snore, hiding my tummy gurgling noises. :D

cheers,

Re: hybrid minivan?

You may have to hope for a diesel people/cargo mover. I think minivans have
lost a lot of popularity to cross-over utilities. Still, if you believe Toyota's statement
that their entire portfolio...

Re: The great hybrid advantage: Is Toyota unstoppable?

Toyota deserves a lot of credit, but Ford and Volvo do too. I have it on good
authority that the FEH/MMH drivetrain was developed off common ancestry
to Toyota's. It was Aisin's original design. ...

Re: Earth Hour – 1 hour of your life for the future of the planet

I got home late. I shut the whole house down from 8:11-9:11. No sweat.
My wife read by candlelight and I just sat still. The house temperature only
dropped by a degree. It was 24F out.

Hope...

Re: County says 'no' to buying hybrid car

I remember the Dodge Ram (I think) on "Walker, Texas Ranger." Oh wait,
that's TV, not reality. ;) It probably takes trucks to stop trucks. Crown Vics
(and Camry hybrids) aren't so good at...

Re: Jerk of the Day for March 30, 2008

Looks like you'll easily fill all JotD slots for the rest of the year
the way things are going. :D

idea: JotD calendar to raise money; better yet, high FE cars calendar to raise money.

Re: New S1 Veto Prius II technique

I think bestmapman's test has the right base conditions to check the theories.
There was not warm engine coolant in the thermos bottle (well, unlikely to be
warm after 2 days).

So, all fun aside,...

Re: Upsizing Trend?

Hi Brian,

Being familiar with the Yaris, would you say the 1.5L engine is more
than sufficient? Would a smaller engine still do the job, or would further
weight and size reductions be necessary? ...

Upsizing Trend?

Does it seem like new generations of Toyotas (and Scions) are getting
bigger in dimensions and in engine displacement? I suppose it is true
of other makes as well. I'm only singling out Toyota...

accelerated to 33 mph? I think your last...

Welcome!

battery every 3 months or so. How long you can leave it parked probably
also...

Re: Week of March 24th-30th (Nat Avg $3.26)

Filled up a couple of days ago at $2.959 at a local Hess.

Finally getting a good tank. Average is 33 mpg after 113 miles, mostly today
going to various doctor's appointments with my father-in-law. ...
