Home energy retrofit

So I haven't read or posted here in quite a while -- over
summer 2012 I wound up busy with a rather different project:
what's called a "deep energy retrofit" on the house,
resulting in a MASSIVE...

Re: The Danger That Lurks - Real World Traffic Case Studies

I haven't been on the forum in a while, but was prompted to come
look at all this by our picture-taking hero who I chat with on
a semi-regular basis. I think helped get him started on this

Re: California motorists leading the way on using less gasoline

This is total bunkum. I was out that way this summer, tooling
around the LA and SF areas a bit, and I thought Californians,
with some of the most expensive fuel in the country, would have
adopted a...

Mountain madness

I want to throw this out there for discussion/comment.
I'm crossing a fairly high mountain ridge on a US highway. It
goes up with two lanes on the climbing side, allowing plenty of
passing room...

Re: Awesome July 4th storms in NW Minnesota!

Best I can do with the point-n-shoot is a 15s timed open, but
that with the smallest aperture I can set to keep the non-bolt
light level down has managed to catch a couple of good ones.

Re: What do you do when the light turns green?

The yuppie button has averted its share of close calls, if not
actual collisions, over its history. Keeping the unwashed away

Re: a nice counterpoint

Well, to answer that question anyway, I did my own inverter pump
swap and coolant change at a little over 100k. Pump was cheap
enough and the collective learning experience I could gain from

Re: OP/ED: American say they want 60m.p.g. cars but won't buy them

I spent much of the day carefully doing the overdue engine coolant
change in the Prius, which ironically involves wasting quite a

Re: CleanMPG Reviews the 2011 Chevrolet VOLT

My understanding is that the Volt pack is kept in a "safe" SOC
range too, i.e. your 12 kwh is really part of what is it, 15 or
18 kwh on-paper total pack capacity? So cycle life should be far
