Re: Civic Hybrid 2008 Replacement?

If you don't have any issues with ergonomics in a Prius, I'd just buy one of those and call it a day.

Re: CleanMPG member Herm has passed away :(

Ugh. That's terrible. I never quite knew what to make of him, but he certainly added an interesting flavor to the forums. I'll miss his posts.

Re: Mercedes and the Diesel

MB diesels are astounding highway cruisers. A pleasure to drive (when they aren't broken...) with far better FE than they have any right to deliver. My MIL has a '99 or '00 that just keeps on...

Re: Cited for cornering to fast, anything I can do?

Tire squealing just means you are turning money into noise and then exiting the turn slower than if you had gone through at a better speed. Either slow down, pick a better line, or both.

Re: A Volt is at Home

I'm not gonna lie, I'm a little jealous. The Volt has been a remarkably solid offering from GM. Midding ICE FE or not, I wouldn't mind having one in the drive.

Re: 2006 Motorola RAZR Dumb phone rising from the ashes ;)

Hmm. Maybe keep it on a readily accessible belt clip or in your jacket rather than in the front pocket. I don't want to hear on the news that the owner of CleanMPG dropped trou at a major...

Re: Time to Remove Your Winter Tires

I usually take the snows off at the earliest opportunity for all of these reasons. I was a little lazy with the wife's car this year since I don't think those tires have enough tread left to do the...

Re: Going to buy a new car...

I didn't realize that the 5 was only 2-seats across in the 2nd row. It should be fine for hauling a young family of 5 locally, then, but I don't know what they would do on an overnight trip. I can't...

Re: Signs of Solyndra? Fisker Lays Off 75 Percent of Employees

That completely defies logic. If you want to argue that his administration has made some terrible investments, we can talk. But you make it sound like you think he's the one who fired them. God...

Re: Going to buy a new car...

If you buy a Jetta and have a 3rd, you will be shopping for cars again. My in-laws have one (TDI) and the back seat is just too narrow and cramped. (They are doing just fine with 2 car seats,...

Re: Advocates urge regulators to mandate rear cameras in new cars

Having owned a car with a backup camera and now owning one without one, I can appreciate the benefits. Mandatory? Meh. If it's an option on my next vehicle I'll be happy to check the box, though. ...

Re: Porsche Panamera Goes the Way of the Plug-in

That's like asking why someone would buy a long-wheelbase Mercedes S class and then pay someone else to drive. All that money and you only get to use the back seat!

Re: Abused dog left to die while tied to rock in rising Pa. creek

After two years of involvement with a local pitbull rescue (my wife much moreso than me) it's hard to be surprised by the levels of cruelty that people are capable of. We had a foster last year...

Re: I hate decaf

/\ /\ Believe it or not, pouring water manually through a cone filter is one of the simplest but also the best ways to make a cup of coffee. The best fancy drip brewers do literally nothing but try...

Re: I hate decaf

I have been roasting my own coffee for a few years. I mostly drink the real deal and keep it to the AM, but I have gotten some great decafes from my green coffee supplier. (I buy from Sweet Maria's.)...

Re: C-MAX and Fusion Hybrid starting to get bad press

Careful. I have tried threatening cars in the past, and it hasn't ever gone well for me. I guess it's different if you are just dissing it vs. making an actual threat. Still, the only breakdown I...

Re: Govt. Spends More on Disability than Food Stamps, Welfare Combined

I heard the NPR story about this on my way home. I have met people who claim to be on disability...with no apparent ailment...and now I understand why. It's easy to make a claim, it's a lucrative...

Re: Volvo V60 Plug-in Hybrid stars in New York as one of three candidates for the Wor

The V60 PHEV is a nice piece of technology, but I'm pretty sure the sticker price will make a Volt look downright pedestrian. I'd be happy to see Volvo bring any regular wagon to the US market with...

Re: Motor, Transmission Mount Damage

I have seen them go. Heat exposure doesn't help rubber components, so a southern CA resident is more likely to have problems than a IL resident.

Re: NYS DRIVE Act Would Ban Ferraris and Other "Assault Vehicles"

Ha. But really, what we learned from the SAFE act is that if this were true, the bill would have been passed and signed into law before we ever found out it existed. See, NY is unique in that the...

Re: Motor, Transmission Mount Damage

Needing new mounts doesn't sound unreasonable, and that price may or may not be realistic. The book for my car quotes 1.8 hours standard labor plus $140 for the part, which would be right around...
