Charlie,
I understand, but what a shame that people like Nardelli do so much long term damage.
Home depot is just now recovering from the damage this asshat did to them. They lost so many good people(who Lowes was only too happy to hire BTW), that it cost them business in the long term, and their reputation took a hit. My brother has been with HD for 25+ years. He told me the time under Nardelli was the worst he had ever seen. He stuck it out and is doing OK now, but he told me a lot of very good and loyal people were forced to leave.

The damage he did to Chrysler is obvious. This guy isn't qualified to run a lemonade stand, yet he will keep being offered multi million dollar jobs.
Incredible

kryten428,

I was just making a point that this guy now has to find engines and emission systems from other sources, until Navistar engineers have time to rectify the emissions problems. Cummins just happened to be the first large diesel engine manufacture that came to mind.

Herm-ha,ha-so he reminds you of President Obama??
Yeah, guess that was who I was thinking of...

Blackbelt-So Nardelli ??? is why Home Depot near me looks kinda' shabby?
But Lowes has nice wide clean aisles--looks GOOD!
Is he the same prick that all but did in Chrysler?? (not that Chrysler didn't have plenty of help-MB being very little help-UAW not any help)

But Nardelli types drive down costs(usually by cutting hours-cutting overtime-cutting employees, making the rest just work harder so the best leave if they can-and driving suppliers to cut prices(so they eventually cut corners and deliver parts that fail)

Yeah-they are all ONE TRICK PONIES.
The economy is SOOOO POOR that it works -for now-which is why those pricks keep getting jobs..
The guy who is doing in Navstar seems to be a slightly different sort-
he did a different sort of cheapout-assumed his engineers could turn water into wine-
Because HE THOUGHT THEY COULD-and it was cheaper than doing it the way the competion was doing it.
A Gamble-would have made him a GENIUS- if it had paid off.
F-UP for sure- but slightly different sort of F-UP
But a F-up based on "cheapest option" so at heart-the same!!

Sucks-sad-hope they can come back.
Didn't realize they were Internation Harvester???
He is going to kill them??
Heck I remember they made IH Suburban like SUVs-forest service folks used to use them years ago-right??

Wow-this is depressing me
Charlie

The Travelall, or some such name, based on IH pickups? They've been gone for a while now.

Yes Charlie, that's the guy. His ruthless cost cutting at HD changed one of the things that set them apart from their competitors, competent people, many of whom actually worked in the field with the products. Plus, they cut the staff in each store so badly that you can never get any type of help. Since he is gone, they are slowly turning it around, but he did so much damage it will take years to regain their reputation.
He didn't do much to Chrysler, expect accelerate what the Germans started and put them right on the verge of bankruptcy. Same MO, like you said a one trick pony. Cheapen everything and hope no one notices. Yea, that works real well in the auto business.
After he spent 2 years f'ing up Chrysler, he was hired as CEO of the Freedom group. The common thread here is that Cerberus owns Freedom group, and DID own Chrysler. So much for Cerberus managment having any sense. He lasted 2 years at The Freedom group. Since his severance package form HD was $210 million, i don;t think the douchenozzle is hurting these days.

Re: Death By Hubris: The Decision That Could Bankrupt A Great American Manufacturer

$200 Million severance????
They obviously negotiate these packages when they are hired
and they base them on numbers-how high stock price goes-peak "lowness" of costs(workers pay and how much the suck out of suppliers who then have to cut workers etc)
They don't base them on "how much it is going to cost us to undo your F-ups" since that bill-drop in sales production brand value
Heck Chrysler took the GOV funds-in worse shape than GM
They were DOA without our-USA- funding(which I favor-and would probably favor for Navstar if it came to it-it is REALLY REALLY HARD to regain good middle class manufacturing jobs once they are "gone"

Nardelli- I wondered why HD suddenly- it was sudden here in the HD in Elmwood area (4 miles W of NOLA proper)
One day-fine-go in 8 months later-SHABBY LOOKING-
Just like that shabby-and Lowes-selling same quality stuff it seemed, different brands but same general made in China qualily- looked shiny and new-wide clean aisles fair number sales helpers.
Really QUICK" shabbification"-less than a year!!
Once employees lose moral-the usual " shut up you are lucky to have ANY job "feeling" you get from the bosses" businesses get a POS feel to them!!
Almost all jobs have a drone quality to them at times- but it is different when you get a cost cutter"lucky to have any job" leader.
Probably just like the mines in the late 19th century
But with the world wide economy we have to hope all the 3rd world countries up wages enough to send jobs back here(thanks to internet cell phones they-3rd world folks-know just how well some of their fellow countrymen are living)
Guess we should hope for a HUGE increase in oil price-it would drive up ALL SHIPPING COSTS- even ships-and make us-USA more competitive.
Shipping from China is no doubt very cheap-1% total cost?? who knows- but every bit is important in this economy!!

Oh well-sorry to go sideways
Blackbelt-wonder what this POS Nardelli is doing now??On some golf course-gated community- trophy wife?? Maybe his kids hate him-KARMA is just toooo slow!
Golf is a sissy sport of course!!!(sorry just can't resist it-riding a cart around shaved monoculture of hardly grass too short grass-no trees to speak of-what sort of candy azz sissy sport is that??)) !!! Lose that freakin' cart you sissies!!!
Need more coffee maybe-cranky!! Sorry golfers!
Charlie
PS HAH !!MY SAINTS WON DESPITE THE NFL!!!

I used to play golf years ago , but I came to realize that all that walking around searching for my lost balls was seriously disturbing my beer-drinking. So I gave my clubs to a teenager who really wanted some. Now I just go to the driving range a few times a year. Problem solved.
