2013 Hyundai Elantra "swooped" Coupe starts at $17,445 and still provides a 40 mpgUS highway rating with the MT.

Hyundai late last week announced pricing for the new 2013 Elantra Coupe which will begin at $17,445. When we first reported on the 2013 Coupe from the floor of the Chicago Auto Show, it was the third addition to the all-new Elantra family (old school Touring notwithstanding) and is arguably one of the slickest looking entry’s in the white hot C-Segment category. In addition to its modern and very classy fluidic sculpture, the all-new two-door offers the same attributes as the sedan while broadening the Elantra’s overall appeal to an even more youthful audience who are willing to forgo four-door versatility for a coupes sporty appeal.

2013 Elantra Coupe Fluidic Sculpture

Fluidic Sculpture design language is described as the replication of the interaction of wind with rigid surfaces to create a perception of “fluid in motion”.

Hyundai's signature hexagonal front fascia and jeweled swept-back headlights give Elantra Coupe an even more aggressive "face" than the sedan.

From the side, the Elantra Coupe provides the familiar smooth wedge silhouette with deeply sculpted surfaces including a pronounced beltline. The uplevel SE model features five-spoke 17” alloys with dark spoke inserts. With the coupe, there is not a significant loss in interior headroom vs. its sedan counterpart.

From the rear, a blacked-out rear diffuser lower bumper fascia contrasts with the dual chrome-tipped exhaust outlets. The SE model deck lid incorporates a lip spoiler design element.

The drag coefficient for the Elantra Coupe is an exceptionally low 0.28 Cd, resulting in minimal cabin wind noise intrusion and better fuel economy. The Elantra Coupe was designed at Hyundai's North American Design Center in Irvine, Calif.

Just like the sedan, the 2013 Hyundai Elantra Coupe features significant content advantages over many of its C-Segment competitors. The entry to the Elantra Coupe lineup is the well-equipped GS, which arrives with A/C, heated front seats, AM/FM/SiriusXM Satellite Radio/CD/MP3 audio system, steering wheel audio controls, illuminated vanity mirrors, cruise control, Bluetooth, external temperature gauge, fog lights, power locks, power heated mirrors, remote keyless entry with alarm, 60/40 split fold-down rear seatback and 16-inch alloy wheels all standard.

According to Hyundai, the Elantra Coupe is scheduled to arrive at Hyundai dealerships nationwide later this month.

New Chassis Tuning

The Elantra Coupe is fitted with a McPherson strut front end and a V-beam rear end, both with integrated 22 mm stabilizer bars helping to reduce body roll and turn-in response when cornering. Steering knuckle design and damper tuning have all been recalibrated for sportier handling and steering responsiveness compared with the current Elantra sedan. In addition, Elantra Coupe offers an even sportier SE model suspension calibration that is optimized for its lower-profile P215/45R17 tires.

My co-worker SWEARS he saw an Elantra coupe back in early May near Bartlett, IL. I think he was mistaken , but he stays pretty current with new car news. Is it possible he actually saw one ?

Am I the only one that thinks if Hyundai were to re-work that front Grille area, then they would have a nice looking car. It looks like a large-mouth bass.
