VW April 2012 Sales up 31.5%, Leads Industry

While the few VW dealerships I have recently dealt with are plagued with unqualified sales personnel, their cars are proving to be very desirable and are selling well because of it.

VW April Sales

VW this morning reported sales of 37,525 vehicles in April, a 31.5 percent increase over prior year sales, a 38 percent increase year-to-date and the best April since 1971.

Last month, the company announced expansion plans for the VW Credit Inc. facility just down the street in Libertyville, IL. The ground breaking took place on April 20 for a 30,000-square-foot facility expansion and will add another 150 local jobs. This comes on top of the additional 1,000 jobs that the company announced it would add at its manufacturing plant in Chattanooga, TN to meet growing demand of the 2012 Passat.

While the Jetta sedan remains the volume leader for VW with sales totaling 15,658 including the Jetta SportWagen, it’s the 12 Passat that is making the company $’s. Sales of the Chattanooga-built Passat rose yet again and broke though the 10,000 mark vehicles sales mark (10,096 vehicles were sold in April) for the second time.
