Celebrating Earth Day with Nissan’s LEAF
 

Driving Manhattan in a LEAF is the “Perfect” way to make use of this groundbreaking BEV.

The 73-mile all-electric range LEAF participated in the “CO2 E Drive” to Times Square for Earth Day 2012 in New York City.

As part of Earth day's activities for 2012, the LEAF took part in a CO2 E Drive through Manhattan along a route that finishes up in Times Square.

The LEAF and other BEV/PHEVs were equipped with a GPS tracking tech while acting virtual paintbrushes with Manhattan serving as the canvas. The vehicles followed a predefined route forming an image of a large letter "E" overlaid on a satellite image of the city. Satellite cameras captured the image and displayed it in the form of colored lights.

Once in Times Square, the LEAF took the stage during a special car runway show highlighting green vehicle attributes, such as zero tailpipe emissions, parts made from recyclable materials, and its range of 73 miles.

Following the show, a designated area in Times Square was available for runway show vehicles, as well as innovators of environmentally responsible technologies, to exhibit for the duration of the event.
