Everyone can save fuel ($$$$) if they have the desire. --Ed.

We are celebrating Earth Day this weekend. I thought I’d offer up some advice to help the average driver save at the fuel pump.

The American driver likes to complain about gas prices, but are they committed to changing some of their driving habits in order to take fewer trips to the gas station? Maybe it’s time to trade in the SUV, van or car for something smaller, or a hybrid. Hybrid sales have surged more than 60 percent this year, but they still account for less than
3 percent of the total market.

Small car sales are leading the way in a resurging auto industry. Clearly, many consumers are making the switch to hybrids and smaller cars, and they likely are benefiting by making fewer stops at the gas station.

The website fueleconomy.gov is a great resource for consumers who may want to compare new and used vehicles and their fuel economy to see if it makes good financial sense to buy a hybrid or smaller car.

Fueleconomy.gov is funded through the Department of Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency and is located at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in
Tennessee.
Bo Saulsbury is a research staff member with fueleconomy.gov. He said drivers should weigh all options and do research before upgrading to a hybrid or buying a smaller car.... [Read More]

From what I've seen most people must not want to save gas money. I have to laugh at those that drive at maniacal speeds so they can beat me to the red light ahead. Have to wonder how much more expensive gas has to get before they slow down and learn how to drive smooth. A lot of people seem to think the accelerator pedal doesn't work unless you bury it in the floorboard. And these are the same people that complain about getting bad mileage.

I drove down to Washington Pa. yesterday and it was me in the lead, a Ford Mystic and another small car behind him in the right lane at 55 mph on I-79. Every other vehicle on the south bound side was doing 60 to 65 miles per hour in a 55 mph zone.

It amazes me how people Bitch, Moan and Complain about gasoline prices yet do nothing to save themselves some money by just slowing down to the speed limit.

And probably responsible for the myriad drive-thru coffee cups and lids strewn along the side of roads

Whenever I see someone accelerate up to a stop it makes me scratch my head, it must make them feel important or something but I just see disorganization :eyebrow:

The only good part is a lot of the lights where I drive are demand driven, rather than being on timers, so the driver that has to beat me to the red light also starts the cycle to change it to green.

They think it's all the car. When i had My insight someone asked me what i was getting. i told her my tank average at the moment was 85 mpg. She was shocked and said " that car gets 85 mpg??" i told her when driven right yes it can.

I experience so many fights and arguments with Discount Tire and Goodyear Tire when I inflate my tires to the sidewall maximum. They're always telling me I risk all the dangers that Wayne states are not of concern. It's a constant battle with these tire places when I go into get my tires rotated or balanced. As a result I hate going to these tire places.

I've been keeping my tire pressure to the maximum, and I've never had any problems with over 130,000 miles of driving.

Emphasized the key words that apply to any and all vehicles. Wayne has amply demonstrated this fact.
