I personally like the looks of the Ram truck compared to the mundane fascia pronounced in most other auto venues. That truck will be getting the same gas mileage as my former compact car at 17/25 city/highway! Impressive!

Am I the only one who doesn't get this "re-acceleration" idea? Either you are accelerating or you aren't.

Hi Sean:

You would not believe the verbiage within some of the Press Kits nowadays and many manufacturers are trade marking this made up fantasy land jargon too!

Volkswagen Up! wins 2012 World Car of the Year

The up! named “World Car of the Year 2012”
International jury gives prestigious award to Volkswagen’s city car.
New York, NY - The up! has been named “World Car of the Year” by a jury of 66 top journalists from 25 countries today at the 2012 New York International Auto Show. The Volkswagen up! city car was selected out of three finalists to secure the internationally recognized prize.

“This award shows once again that in the up!, our designers and engineers have created a vehicle that has been thought through in minute detail. A vehicle that sets standards in its class for efficient use of space, safety, motoring fun and environmental compatibility,” said Prof. Dr. Martin Winterkorn, Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen AG.

Since its launch in December, the up! has been making waves. Within just a short time of its launch last December, it topped new vehicle registrations in Germany and consumer protection organization Euro NCAP awarded the city car a top score of five points and the “Advanced Award” for its city emergency braking system. The up! has garnered other accolades, including the “iF design award in Gold,” the “2011 Goldene Lenkrad” (Golden Steering Wheel) and three awards from British motoring magazine “What Car?”: “Car of the Year”, “City Car 2012” and the “Safety Award.”

On a minimal footprint (3.54 m long) the up! provides plenty of space for four people, as well as the debut of a new generation of three-cylinder gasoline engines. They deliver 44 kW / 60 PS and 55 kW / 75 PS and are also available with the environmentally friendly BlueMotion Technology.

Morning pictures from the New York International Auto Show...

Start of the day, with the Empire State Building in the morning sun, and the Javits Center against the bright blue sky.

Family transportation - past, present, and future?
Top left: 1966 Chevrolet Impala convertible. Cast iron pushrod carbureted V8, two speed automatic, live axle. Those were the days.
Top right: A banner prominently positioned at the front of the Javits Center advertises the new Kia Optima Limited.
Bottom left/right: The Terrafugia roadable aircraft. The tail number suggests this particular specimen is a manufacturer demo.

GM's South Korean fuel sippers will be arriving at dealers soon - the 2013 Chevrolet Spark and 2013 Buick Encore.

The next Nissan Altima promises 38mpg thanks to Pure Drive.

The big news at Hyundai was the new SantaFe Sport and SantaFe, the last two vehicles in their 7/11 initiative.

After the show, Kia hosted a gathering for weary journalists to socialize among a few Kia concepts and racing cars.

Top left, the waving checkered flag marks the address for the party. Bottom left and at right, the view from the loft to the main floor below.
Intense blue and pink lighting, fog machine, loud music, open bar, and a dozen different types of finger foods amount to sensory overload for all five senses.

Top left, after a few drinks, I was the life of the party, as evidenced by the lamp shade on my head. :D
Top right and lower left, a Kia Optima wrapped and equipped to race.
Lower right, the Kia Soulster, GT, and the race-ready Optima were the stars of the party as well as the hosts.
