Billy’s cross country trek to Hybridfest has begun.
Hi All:
___I just received a call from Bill that he is currently 500 miles out at the Utah/Idaho border sitting at 103.6 mpg. Today’s forecast is hypermiling friendly with warm temps and very light winds as he approaches the Rockies later on today/tonight. He has been using his new CC unit on the flats to give his foot a rest but is generally enjoying the drive towards the Midwest. His main statement came across as “Lean-Burn” is the key
___He mentioned his multi-message, scrolling LED sign is attracting some attention on the desolate stretches of roadway as a guy in a 500 series MB Sedan (aka - fuel sucking pig) pulled up along side and gave him the finger. Bill smiled and waved back
___Good Luck

Re: Billy’s cross country trek to Hybridfest has begun.
Since this year's MPG Challenge might have to be faster, using the lean burn cruise may be more critical.
Dallas is prarieland, but mixmasters and some exits have significant hills. What I do is do a slow acceleration about a half mile in advance in lean burn and pray traffic does not force me to slow back down before going up the hill.

Re: Billy’s cross country trek to Hybridfest has begun.
Hi All:
___Billy’s update … He is now over 1,000 miles out near the Wyoming/Nebraska border and running at 104.3 mpg for the trip. Lean-burn and FAS’ing down the longer slopes is working great.
___He pulled into a rest stop last night for a quick few hours sleep and noticed something really horrible. There are quite a few other drivers in their vehicles sleeping with their headlights on and ICE’s on idling away. Saddened me to hear and him to see this on a high 70 degree night in both our opinions
___Good Luck

Re: Billy’s cross country trek to Hybridfest has begun.
That would sort of indicate he's dropped down south to I-80
as opposed to staying on 90 which looks like it would be
more direct ... there must be a good reason?
.
My own odyssey begins tomorrow morning.

Re: Billy’s cross country trek to Hybridfest has begun.
And mine begins Wednesday morning. Wayne, can I assume you'll PM an address for Thursday night? And a preferred route of travel if it's something other than what Google Maps would recommend? I'm coming in from the east on I-80/I-90, timing it to hit town about 7 or 8 pm.

Go Billy Go!
Looks like you may come close to a "Pacific Ocean to the Missouri River" run on one tank. Lewis & Clark would be in awe.

Re: Billy’s cross country trek to Hybridfest has begun.
He called me earlier this evening -- surprise! Unfortunately
I couldn't talk long, but he's evidently sitting at a 107.x
average, "without really trying" as he sez! Ha! Me and my
measly 58.3 for the day wish *we* had lean-burn...
.
I'm in the Buffalo area for the night; continuing tomorrow
with maybe a quick stop in South Bend. Hmm, should I keep
piggybacking my reports off this thread or start a new one
or just drop it in the "week of" ?? Nothing really of
note so far anyways.

I can't even imagine that,
that insight can't be stock + MIMA only (can it?), anyone know what he has done to it, I'm very interested
