Jerk of The Day

...because every jerk thinks they are....Special!

Sighted by: Delta Flyer
Vehicle: Toyota Tundra 4x4
Place: Bush Tollway, Carrollton Texas
Date: Spring 2006

I was facing the sun too and had no reason to squint in case you are wondering...if anyone was to conclude he just got back from the eye doctor, hundreds of pickup drivers daily go to the same clinic.

Seeing poses like this several times a day can make you wonder if some vehicles should be classified as a drug by the Food and Drug Administration. After all some users get the illusion they are invincible, even believe themselves to be God.

Maybe I rent one some day to see if the experience makes me feel like Time's next Person of the Century.
Have stories of your own? Send them and your pictures and they will be the next Jerk of the Day!

I think this jerk of the day thing is getting a bit out of hand. Sure it's not good for the guy to be driving such a large vehicle by himself and it's not good to be squinting while driving, but is that really deserving of being a jerk of the day? Then you talk about them feeling invincible and god-like because they're squinting? Do you need to go so far? I guess I really don't understand why this guy is viewed as such a jerk.

Ditto. It looks lie he's getting scatter off the flat hood. Happened with the Dakota (flat, reflective hood) a lot. Not nearly as bad in the Civic.

Now if I had the picture from when one of my HS classmates passed me at 70mph on the inside of a double striped blind turn at the top of a 45mph hill in a level 3 thunderstorm, THAT would make JoTD.

Update: just after reading this, I get the rude pass from a Ram at 6:30am this morning, a mile later after doing some P&G, he blasts by me again! Is there a correlation between driving attitude and fuel economy?

This feature has just started and will have other situations...have you noticed that only three members have contributed so far? The best way to have diversity is for people like you to submit pictures of your own. Action trumps being a Monday Morning Quarterback every time. If you have a picture of a Prius doing 50mph in an HOV lane bottlenecking traffic or the like it will be JOTD. Same for Civics racing recklessly, or vehicles with a large black cloud of smoke. This is like anything else - if you want more point of views - participate!

Some people (like me) are more sensitive to driving into the bright morning and evening sun. Even with sunglasses I often squint when drivng into such light. I rarely go outside without sunglasses even on cloudy days. But I'm pretty sure I don't lean my head back like that...

I saw a good one this morning. Too bad I couldn't have snapped a pic. It was a guy in a Civic, and he started all the way in the far left lane. Then he quickly moved all the way across 4 lanes of traffic, and then immediately back across all 4 lanes. When I passed him a mile down the road he was beepin and creepin down an exit ramp.

Whaddajerk!

I see these multi-lane swirves to an exit all the time - vulgar.

Hmm.... judging people based on their posture when they are alone in their car. To me the dude looks tired so he's resting his head on the headrest and squinting to fight his eyes open.

My posture is bad sometimes, so I guess I'm a jerk too?

It isn't one of the criteria for jerkness in my eyes.

I think you should focus on people's interactions with others rather than their appearance for JOTD. There may be some days (like today?) when you don't have a worthy pic for the thread.

Just my $0.02.

There will be other varieties of JOTD, but allow me to make a comparison:

Wayne driving...both hands on the wheel, knowing the dash readings, scoping 360-degrees around, anticipating what traffic is about to do (or might do)
Dude in a one-ton pickup in that somewhat lawn chair lean with the one-armed lean not looking exactly alert...how many more milliseconds is he going to take if he suddendly need to stop or evade an accident? How likely is he gonig to overturn and rollover with just one arm on the wheel? Is that one arm even securly in control of the wheel? Has he thought out a "what if"?Could there be more contrast between the hypermiler and poseur?

I may not be able to speak for a specific individual, but I see this several times daily....right after reading the first couple of protests to this JOTD I drove to work and a Dodge Ram blasted around me...even with P&G I was ahead of him a mile later and he did that offensive left pass again. I put the screams on this thread along with the FU passes/and poses not as missing the mark, but hitting a nerve dead center - the same picture got similar responses at another forum a couple of years ago...the one most offened can't even get 20mpg on his Toyota Highlander Hybrid - bet I could do better on a Tahoe hybrid. My posture is not always the best either, but the members here are smart and knows I'm not as general as some may be saying I am.

Better fuel economy seems like a psychlogical rather than a techincal issue - many are slaves to rotten fuel economy because driving is more of a power play than going places - think about it.

Absolutely RIGHT! if that thing gets out of control...well..lets hope someone's house isnt just right around the corner..its all about "oh its broken, let's fix it" what about, "see all those signs, I bet they're trying to tell us something".

would he only be a jerk if he ran off the road and ran over someone in a smar car doing the speed limit cuz the sun was in his eyes. yeah..not gonna fly.

Thats why I always got my Aviators that i was FORCED to pay 400 dollars for...

Hey they resist the cruel rays of our live giving star at 36,000... they should work at 1000 above sea level, right?

Why he is a jerk. Obviously not being prepared for the conditions... and driving a excessive fuel gusslers for the commute...

during war time. Theres a war on remember? in the old days in my state of Wisconsin, in war time penalties for wasting finite resources was punishable by JAIL TIME!
