This is a particularly tricky turn on my commute. It's a series of three t-bone turns in the course of about one-quarter mile. It comes off of a stretch of road that people love to speed down and it services a lot of construction vehicles. I've seen one dump truck jack-knife after going into the series of turns too fast.
On this particular incident I'm entering the series of turns coming off of a red light. I'm about 100 yards past the light so I'm going about 25 mph. The turn is about 50 yards in front of me. While I was at the light I saw this dump truck barreling towards me. I could see he was accelerating as he closed the gap (rapidly) between us. Once he got to about 10 yards behind me, he realized I wasn't going to gun it so he was forced to brake. If I would have floored it and given him a bigger buffer I could have navigated the turn, but I suspect he would have jack-knifed his rig as the other guy did a few weeks back. This shot was taken when he was about 10 feet back. He got as close as about 3 feet before he slowed enough to match speed. And of course, when he passed, his rig looked to be fully loaded.
