This is really something. Read the write-up first and then click on the
video.
This is very cool.... Read this email first, then click to see the
video... (if you have trouble copy and paste web address and go to
site.

Just Unbelievable! And you thought those people that set up

roomfuls of dominos to knock over were amazing...

There are no computer graphics or digital tricks in the film.
Everything you see really happened in real time exactly as you see it. The film took 606 takes. On the first 605 takes, something, usually very minor, didn't work. They would then have to set the whole thing up again. The crew spent weeks shooting night and day. By the time it was over, they were ready to change professions.
The film cost six million dollars and took three months to complete
including full engineering of the sequence. In addition, it's two
minutes long so every time Honda airs the film on British television,
they're shelling out enough dough to keep any one of us in clover for
a lifetime. However, it is fast becoming the most downloaded
advertisement in Internet history. Honda executives figure the ad will soon pay for itself simply in "free viewings". (Honda isn't paying a Dime to have you watch this commercial!).
When the ad was pitched to senior executives, they signed off on it
immediately without any hesitation - including the costs. There are six and only six hand-made Honda Accords in the world. To the horror of Honda engineers, the filmmakers disassembled two of them to make the film.
Everything you see in the film (aside from the walls, floor, ramp, and
complete Honda Accord) are parts from those two cars. The voiceover is Garrison Keillor. When the ad was shown to Honda executives, they
liked it and commented on how amazing computer graphics have gotten. They fell off their chairs when they found out it was for real.

Oh. and about those funky windshield wipers. On the new Accords, the

windshield wipers have water sensors and are designed to start doing
their thing automatically as soon as they become wet. It looks a bit
weird in the commercial.

No Need For {Words} :D :D :D :D :D

The only problem is the three tires rolled up a ramp. And you could clearly see they seemed to stay put uphill where they stopped, as if they actually were not ramped uphill.

oh this, yeah it was pretty amazing when i first found out about it and how it was done in real time.

Must took a lot of math ;)

What if they were heavily counterweighted, like full of cement on one side? And the cement was balanced on top? I gotta look again and see if it's exactly 180 degrees rotation.
I watched it again and you may be correct. If they in fact did this then it kind of spoils the point that no tricks were used.

Hi All:

___There was a detailed write up on the net about this commercial a few years ago as to how everything was performed. I can 99% guarantee that the whole thing was done in real time and without CGI from my reads way back when. Google could be our best friend WRT to this question however.

Maybe no CGI but tricks were used as there is no way tires roll up hill and then stay there.

The tires roll uphill because they are heavily weighted at the top (hidden inside the tire). The tire rolls uphill but the center of gravity of the tire/weight is actually falling, thus obeying the laws of physics.

There is one small bit of CGI. When the muffler rolls across the floor, a small bit of that is CGI. There wasn't enough room in the studio to do the whole thing so they did it in two parts. The separate sequences were joined by a rolling CGI muffler.

Which by the way is a trick and voids the reality of the whole bit.

maybe they weighted the tired with parts from the car ;) wedged them in there so they wouldn't move ... the wipers kinda freaked me out the way they walked. Definately an amazing video!!!

Hi Shaun,

Yeah I thought alot more people would really get a kick out of the Video. It didn't seem to get the Hurrah that I was expecting however. Oh-Well I tried to find something that I thought everyone would think was cool to watch. :p

Okay so maybe they didn't use computer graphics or digital tricks but, they did use tricks because things normally don't roll uphill and then stop there.

Everything is a "trick" to those who haven't perfected it yet. ;)
