View Full Version : Jay Leno and the Tesla cuchulain 03-21-2008, 09:28 AM Nice to see under the hood. http://www.jaylenosgarage.com/video/video_player.shtml?vid=229378 Good Luck Andrew kh400 03-25-2008, 02:05 PM Jay's a great guy and an automotive purist and nut who can afford what most of us only dream about. Which brings me to the tesla. Impressive but not affordable to the average joe like me and a lot of you.Why can't one of the American car manufacturers work on building and affordable electric car for the masses instead of gas sucking, monsterous sport utilities and pickups? shifty35 03-25-2008, 06:37 PM /cry I want one. pdk 03-25-2008, 08:10 PM There is one thing wrong with the Tesla...I can't afford one right now. Hell, I just want to drive one once or twice, that would be awesome. bomber991 03-25-2008, 08:42 PM Woah woah, I thought the tesla was supposed to be around $70k? Checking on their site it's $100k. Either way, looks so nice and I want one now. Too bad lithium batteries aren't a lot cheaper. desdemona 03-26-2008, 02:31 AM Woah woah, I thought the tesla was supposed to be around $70k? My understanding is that their NEXT vehicle is going to be around $50 k. Still a tad out of my price range. :-} They have a new plant in ABQ. I think I could an engineer, nah, maybe not. For one thing I'm not an engineer. --des bomber991 03-27-2008, 12:21 AM My understanding is that their NEXT vehicle is going to be around $50 k. Maybe if they market it as a luxury car it would sell pretty good. desdemona 03-27-2008, 01:29 AM Well, I guess the next one is supposed to be more practical? Maybe if they market it as a luxury car it would sell pretty good. It isn't on their webpage, but I know I read about it around when they decided to have a plant in Albuquerque. BTW, they are hiring engineers in San Carlos CA (so they are still working there too). --des vtec-e 03-27-2008, 06:26 AM Why can't one of the American car manufacturers work on building and affordable electric car for the masses instead of gas sucking, monsterous sport utilities and pickups? Because then we'll be able to "re-fuel" our cars at home. We can make our own electricity but not our own gasoline/diesel. Mind you, every now and then i hear about guys getting busted for making Poitin. For those who don't know what that is, it's a really strong whiskey/vodka or what have you. Anyway, i wonder were they making bioethanol for their car?;) Either way, theres an awful lot of making in a litre of bioethanol or biodiesel. Ollie(going off on a tangent again)Ayres:D xcel 03-27-2008, 10:04 AM Hi Vtec-e: ___I always wondered why the EU’s citizenry has not gone practically public with black market Bio given the propensity of diesel automobiles and the cost of diesel itself. I have never read about it yet here, the Bio-cookers were going nuts when diesel was $2.00 per (US Gallon) let alone the $4.00 + per it costs today? ___As for Jay and his Tesla, lucky him and I am jealous ;) ___Good Luck ___Wayne vtec-e 03-28-2008, 04:54 PM Hi Wayne, I guess we are too soft really. We get screwed left, right and centre. And besides, you'd do less time for murdering someone compared to making "un-official" bio diesel/ethanol. To do it officially, the govt would require their take (44% on diesel) and in one fell swoop, make the whole exrecise pointless. I did a google search on how much land it takes to make ethanol and found that one acre could fuel a 5l/100k car for approx 25,000km. So there is hope for a few of us with the land but out of those, how many would be able to or be bothered to make the fuel? If enough of us teamed together maybe we could make waves but we are not too good at that either. This is why i think electric cars will really rock. The power will literally be in our hands! ollie vBulletin® v3.6.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
