I'm the Chaplain for our local Voluteer Fire Department (yep, going on calls does result in a hit to the FE), and we normally put on a front license plate so that we're known if we respond directly to the scene of an accident, etc.

I'm about to mount that front license plate this evening, and have considered drilling holes in it to reduce weight and the coefficient of drag. The plate is aluminum and weighs only a few ounces. Still and all ... :) I'm wondering whether drilling those holes will be worth the time and effort.

Yes gang, I'm only kidding (well, half-way anyhow). Just thought I'd share the silliniess going through this old man's brain.

I think you'll get better results by bending a slight curve into it than by drilling holes. Bending would enhance airflow around the plate, rather than smashing up against it. ;)

Hmmmmmmmmm, perhaps if I chamfer the holes a bit, and bend the edges I can actually create lift and assist the FE ... :D

I think your best option by far is to hit the strobes whenever you approach an intersection, and glide through.

(Yes, I'm 100% kidding.)

Tim says he is kidding about hitting the strobes and gliding through the stop signs, but I'll bet visions of awesome tanks danced through his head (even if it was for a few seconds, it counts!). I could only imagine what my mpg's would be like If I could roll through stops and left turns. :D

Get a carbon fiber hood for your car. If my car once fully hopped up / tuned gets me better than 46 mpg weekly tank then I probably won't get any of the current hybrids and will kept this car forever until 80+ mpg hybrids come out. Then I might put a CF hood on my car too, but it'll be painted red.
