I finally got my block heater for my HCH II and will install it this weekend. Any tips or suggestions as I understand it can be a "challenge?" I don't have a service manual yet, is there a special procedure for bleeding the air from the coolant lines if necessary?

Thank You!

Hi greenrider:

Please PM me your email address and I'll send you the installation sheets for your block heater.

Unfortunately the PDF file is 240K in size and I cannot (yet) attach it to this post.

Please let us know how the procedures went.

You'll notice that that installation procedures are somewhat detailed and call for many steps to be taken. This can easily overwhelm many folks and as such, dropping by the dealer and having then install it is the next best step.

But I suspect you'll have no big issues at all. ;)

Block Heater Instructions. (http://www.bernardiparts.com/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=08T44-SVB-100)

I suspect you already have the instructions, but in case you don't, Bernardi Honda is a local dealer around here. But their web site consistently has easy to find installation instructions on harder to find accessories.

Unfortunately I don't have jack stands or access to a hydraulic lift (just ramps), so getting to the coolant drain plug is a bit of a pain. Thanks for the pdf files though, guys.

Perhaps you can find a dealer in your area that can install the BH for a good price?

Quite often, this a route that many folks choose not only because of the lesser hassle factor but also because they get a warranty - especially if the BH is already a genuine Honda part.

I had the car in for an alignment this week and the mechanic popped the heater core into the coolant drain on the block for me in less than 5 min (and did it for free). On my day off I ran the wiring and brought the plug out the small opening on the passenger-side lower grill. The first night I plugged it in for about 6-7 hrs just to see how it worked. With a morning temp in the high 20s I didn't have any bars on the temp gauge when I started the car but it warmed up very quickly (end of the block). So far, it seems to be working well the 1 night I've used it.

SInce I discovered that the light posts in the parking lot at work have plugs, I'm plugging in my HCH II while at work to keep the coolant as toasty as possible. It's surprising how many people ask if I've got a plug-in hybrid (I wish).

Thats hillarious.
I don't know where you work, but I would think someone might have a problem with that unless you got prior approval.

I would love the option to plug in my block heater while at the office.
