Interesting that they are looking into making the Explorer a CUV based off a car chassis instead of a truck chassis. Good move IMO. I'd also have to agree with Mr. Kuzak when he said that he is "not sure many customer understand the difference between a CUV and an SUV".
Ford Outlines Future Powertrain Strategy (http://wardsauto.com/ar/ford_powertrain_strategy/)
Hi Daox:
___We had a pretty good discussion about EcoBoost the other day but I like the rear/side profile of that Explorer. I have not seen that pic before. My issue is why are they running the poor thing with a 2.0L I4 delivering 275 HP? Why not a 1.5 at 200??? Leave the 3.5 TwinForce for the idiots and give a fuel miser to those who want to drive an FSP but with some fuel miser capability.
___The reason I say this is Ford is looking at a 20 – 30% improvement over the current Explorer’s V6 which has got to be the most inefficient V6 w/ auto ever created at 16 mpg combined. 20 – 30% improvement means an EPA combined of 20.
___Hey ford, time for yet another reality check before doing something foolish. Gasoline more then doubled in the last 5 years and will probably double again in the following 5 … it did not rise by just 20 to 30%
___Good Luck
