Hi everyone. I've been lurking here for awhile, reading the posts and learning a great deal. There is a wealth of knowledge on these pages. I own an '07 FEH. My wife and I like it and I'm trying to get the MPG up. I freely admit my ignorance in trying to understand the more technical stuff that is mentioned here but I am nevertheless making great strides. This my preeoblem. I own a Scan Gauge II ver 3.0. When I go into EV my Scan Gauge shuts off and I have to press the start button to re-activate it. It also happens when I come to a stop. What causes this? How can I prevent this from occurring? I've ordered the newer ver.3.14. Does the newer version do the same thing?
Thanks in advance for the help.

In fuel mode try going to Hybrid mode. I have a prius and I had the same problem. This solved it for me.

Hello lone ranger and welcome to Cleanmpg! Glad you took the time to sign up and hopefully you'll start a mileage log. Its a great tool to help you track your FE and spur you to improve your mileage.

Just as Bestmapman said, you have to put it in Hybrid mode so it will not turn off when the car switches the ICE off. You can do that by pressing the following to switch it to hybrid mode.

MORE>SETUP>FUEL>TYPE

and choosing hybrid from the options.

Also, you said that ordered the newer 3.14 version? Did you purchase a second one or just send your back to get the firmware flashed (or is the one have you that version)

Linear Logic is great with customer service and they will upgrade your scangauge for minimal cost. If you purchased your scangauge after july 20th they will upgrade it for free, otherwise its a $25 dollar upgrade charge.

Its good to have you here and welcome once again!

Thanks for the info on the setting. It works just fine now :bananajump: I ordered a second unit to use exclusively in the FEH. The older version 3.0 I'll just use in one of my other vehicles for now. I was told that it would cost $25.00 to upgrade the older unit so I'll wait bit on that. But the price is right for an upgrade. Thanks again.

Welcome LoneRanger :) :)

Your FEH has great hypermiling potential - on a percentage basis, it compares *very* favorably with the smaller, non-SUV hybrids, & it blows the doors off the other SUV hybrids :)

Some recommended reading includes Pravus Prime's FEH FAQ:

http://www.greenhybrid.com/discuss/f26/feh-faq-6662/

& then there's GaryG's Hypermiling the FEH:

http://www.cleanmpg.com/forums/articles/t-hypermiling-the-ford-escape-hybrid--350.html

& there is our hypermiling guru, Xcel's Beating the EPA - the Why's & How to Hypermile:

http://www.cleanmpg.com/forums/articles/t-beating-the-epa-the-whys-and-how-to-hypermile-1510.html

Don't try everything at once - just pick 1 or 2, & practice them until they're second nature, then keep adding new techniques. The ScanGauge definitely helps, too :) :) You'll be pleasantly amazed at the FE you can get in this vehicle :) :) :)

(Not that I'm biased or anything :D :D)

Thanks for the added reading. All this information is overwhelming when trying to absorb it at once. I'll take your advice.

We bought a new FEH last weekend. It was a 5 hour trip to bring it home and the maiden voyage returned 39.5 mpg highway. Considering the brand new tires, drivetrain, low air pressure in the tires etc... I was pleasantly surprised. I tried to plug in the Scan Gauge from the 08 Prius we traded and it won't connect. From reading on here, it sounds like this is a firmware issue. Can anyone confirm this? The scan gauge was purchased in December of 2008. I was really looking forward to getting it installed and hopefully pushing FE higher - 42 city/highway combined Sunday-Today :) Considering the terrain in North Central West Virginia, I'm already loving it.

That is fantastic performance! You must have purchased the FWD version?

We did. Have always been able to get by with FWD cars and the price/FE hit of the AWD FEH didn't seem worth it. There's certainly plenty of room left to improve before I even begin to apprach the mileage Gary is seeing, but I was going to be happy to ever get it over 40 prior to purchase. Tried the scan gauge again at lunch time and it is still unable to connect - hoping someone will have some feedback that doesn't result in having to buy a new one.

I believe that Linear Logic will do firmware updates if you ship them your gauge.

What year is it, 2010 or 2011? I could run by a Ford dealer and see if my scangauge will connect to one. I doubt it is a firmware issue; it should at least connect regardless of the version. When you do MORE>MORE>MORE>VERSION what does it say?

Carl - It is a 2011. I sincerely appreciate the offer and apologize that I didn't get back to you quicker. I will check shortly to see what it says and get back to you in a couple of minutes.

It says version 3.14. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. I was really hoping to be able to push the Escape over 50mpg's but without the gauge working it looks like 45-46 may be the best I'm going to be able to get.

Carl - Sorry for the machine gun pace postings. Do you or anyone else on here know if the guage will be capable of indicating traction battery SOC, without the X-Gauge upgrade?

Hi JBumps, Give linear logic a call and tell them your issue. You do need the x-gauge capability and I think they will take care of your problem. Tell them CleanMPG referred you.

Congrats on your new FEH. Check out GaryG's postings and he can help you with your driving tweeks.

Without the xgauge, you won't be able to see anything other than the generic stuff. Still, a SG version 3.14 should be able to connect. I'll try to locate a 2011 at a dealer and try out my SG to see what happens.
