Took my son to an astros game last night, they got drove 14-3 but I can see how alot of people that drive in the city have poor mileage. I filled up just before going downtown and had a full battery and when we left Minute Made
Park I had about 1/4 battery and it showed 46 mpg. I used no a/c but the stop and go traffic was a killer. I did get it back up to 54 mpg by the time we got home. Of course I dodn't use the on board mpg indicator as what I get as it is usually off by 10%.kevin

hm did you try crusing at super slow speed like 20mph? even if cars pass you to wait at the red light you can slowly creep towards it and by the time it hits green you don' thave to stop?

that's why two lanes are for ;) let others sweve around you and then meet you later at the light!

Westheimer is supposed to be 2 lanes but people are able to park so it is really only one lane,I'm talking downtown and EVERYONE was going 20 or less you couldn't go faster if you wanted, that and lighs almost every other block.Trust me I get 54.4 mpg so I do know somethings to do...lol

Hi Phil:

___Texashchman is a very experienced HCH’er and he definitely knows what he is doing ;)

___With that, Texashchman, I need to know your first name and 2. Are you FAS’ing and P&G’ing within and amongst that down town traffic non-sense? Having experienced the Insight without FAS’ing for the Tour Del Sol, we lived and died on AS in the slow speed stuff when traveling in the towns with lights and signs. At 20 mph, a downshift from third to neutral with a steady touch of the brakes (just a tough of regen actually) and she would AS for the coast into the light/sign from as far away as we felt was needed. I have to drive Tom’s again without taking control manually but if the HCH-I acts anything like the Insight 5-speed does around town without forcing things, 10 - 20% above EPA should be doable if the traffic is not grid locked? It will be a ton of work but let us know what kind of traffic you were in?

___Good Luck

Oh my bad I know that feeling, yeah its pretty tough in those conditions you described. There are times when I kinda realize there's only 4 cars behind me and the right lane is clear for a tee whee bit. As soon as I switch over to the right the cars on the left punches it and all four pass me away. Then I go back on the left land with no one behind me :D

because all that time, they couldn't wait to pass me.

Wayne, my autostop only kicks in around 5mph or less.

Hi Tom:

___Thanks for the heads up. Now I know the reason for aggressive FAS’ing in the HCH-I in particular!

___Good Luck

Wayne first my name is Kevin and no I have to admit I wasn't fas or p&g. Traffic for me was horrible as my normal drive is whats called her as Farm to Market roads. These are 2 lane roads that mostly are outside the city. The traffic was heavy in my terms go one block and stop. Cars were mostly bumper to bumper. This was near the ball park but in just a couple of miles it took its toll on my mpg. I used no a/c and tried to increase speed slowly but hell we couldn't go fast anyway because the lights changed by the time I got going like 10 miles an hour and people were stopping. I did get in an area where the lights were timed and things did go better. After I got back on the freeway I was able to hang out in the right lane and do my 55-58 mph. I actually followed a Suburban...drafting abit...lol as the cost of gas must have slowed him down too.kevin

Hi Kevin:

___Your last post broke loose some cobwebs … You work at a dirt burner on the Gulf coast and survived Wilma was it while at work, right?

___About your drive into the city … No FAS’ing in that mess would truly bust a tank. I lose FE in that kind of bumper to bumper nightmare no matter what I try too! That is where the Prius II and FEH’s kick our teeth in but good :( They cannot compete with the HCH-I w/ Lean Burn at ~ 55 mph though :D

___Good Luck

Hi Wayne , it was Rita...lol and I was lucky enough to get out of there before it went way east of us.
Like I said my normal drive is almost all hwy so I RARELY do any FAS.I do put it in netural when going down this one ramp for about a 1/4 mile and then back in 5th.kevin
