Hi all, I'm having a few issues with my scangauge in my Prius II (though these might be strange "expected behaviors" or "features"). I noticed that when I'm in a glide (<40 MPH, 0 RPM), MPG is approximately 100X MPH, but when I'm in warp stealth (>40 MPG, ~1000 RPM, no fuel flow), it shows 9999 MPG. Call me crazy, but shouldn't glides be 9999 MPG too? This would account for most of the disparity in the MFD and the scangauge in terms of mileage.
FWIW, my friend has a CAN-view, and there is far less of a disparity (~1 MPG difference max compared to 3-4 with the scangauge).
Here's what I have right now as settings that have been changed. Any ideas?
Engine: 1.5 L
Code (or whatever it is to choose between CANFS, CANSS, etc): AUTO
Fuel: Hybrid
Hi PDK:
___Do you have one of the newer Scangauges w/ X-Gauge because it sounds like Fuel cut is being shown and recorded in WS? There is an adjustment for that with the new X-Gauge equipped SG-II’s. Under 40 and you should see to 9999 at 0 rpm. Are you saying at 30 in a clean 0 RPM glide you are seeing around 3,000 mpg?
___Good Luck
___Wayne
Hi Wayne, you're right on with both points.

pdk,
Others have seen this as well. There was a couple of threads on PC about it. I don't know if there was any fix though. I can't recall any, and I can;t find the thread (although I didn't look very long). IIRC, the thread was in the September-October range on PC, but I don't remember which section. Sorry I'm not more help. Just know that you're not alone. ;)

There isn't a fix for this yet but I worked with Ron at Linear Logic to isolate the issue. It's due to an oddity in some Toyota ECUs in that they still report a small fuel flow (0.02 - 0.03 GPH) in an engine-off state. This has a double whammy for the current SGII firmware as it not only screws up a FAS reading but it also screws up a DFCO reading if you enter that state from a FAS (i.e. bump starting into a fuel cut).
The next firmware version will have a workaround for this, according to Ron.

I see 0.03 gph when FASing at a stoplight in my 'rolla. I've always wondered why...

This happens on my Subaru too, so it isn't only on Toyotas. See:

I had this same problem in my NON-hybrid 2006 kia rio, but it was only with the new xgauge version this didn't happen with the previous version SG. I pulled my battery and pcm to do some work on sunday. When I put it all back together it reads correctly now, instead of 9999mpg it records my real 250mpg coasting and my gph is at .18 instead of 0.00.
Try reseting you PCM/ECU, this will put it in re-learn and may correct your problem. You can pull your PCM/ECU fuse, pop off the connectors to the PCM or last option is disconnect the negative battery terminal, last because this affect the whole car, radio, clock etc. You only need 30-60 seconds but 5 minutes is always a good idea. It cannot hurt and it may work for you as well.

I have a stock 97 Volvo 850 and I received the same thing this morning. Last night, I added the horsepower XGauge and average MPG for 'today' as one too. Both HP and Avg MPG were working this morning for about 5 minutes when MPG read 9999 and HP 0.0. This did not clear after a few seconds. I thought it was a refresh rate problem so I set it back to normal. If ScanGauge was reading no fuel flow then I definitely shouldn't have been able to get into work this morning. I think it may be an issue with adding HP or MPG so I'll delete those later to see if it clears. Emailed LL this morning but haven't heard a response yet. It was working perfectly before I added the two new gauges.

You can also adjust your fuelcut setting. If you want you can set it to 0 and work up from there. A 0 setting will show no fuel cut at all.
