I was suprised Atlanta was on the good list, but have not driven any other major-class city in at least 25 years.

Dallas has been in recent surveys, including the prior one. They are probably in the list of the ten worst.

Hi Chuck:

___Can’t bust a survey like this but I have driven in the Phoenix area for a week or so just about every year over the last 6 to 7 and the traffic there seems a bit less congested then Chicago. Because of the lower congestion, there is usually room to maneuver so as to lessen the chance of an issue arising. I think that same area has drivers traveling at higher speeds then in Chicago given the higher limits but I did not see a tell-tale increase in aggressive behavior between what I am used to in the Chicago area vs. Phoenix?

I passed thru Phoenix once in 1997 and can't make an honest opinion. I do know that it's growing faster than they can make new roads, so it would not suprize me if more road rage is the result.

Hi Chuck:

___I think I figured out why I do not remember seeing the same congestion and aggressive behavior as most in the Phoenix area. My Mother-in-law lives in Sun City (huge 55 and older retirement community) and they would probably find me the aggressive driver in that area of Phoenix proper ;)

I live in Phoenix and up until 2006, had a job where I commuted from the suburbs of the east valley to almost what some would consider downtown, meaning just south of Sky Harbor airport. I hated it largely on account of the fact I'd have an average speed of roughly 25mph (45-50 minutes to cover 20 miles) but I can't say I see much evidence of road rage.

Maybe I'm just blind to the attempts at rage by other drivers? I think that road rage is largely two-way, to be honest. You have to be willing to participate in order to make it happen, at which point you're 50% of the problem anyway.

Well they're nearly done with the freeway system, at least, and most all surface streets for any areas that matter are done as well. There's a few pockets of horror, mainly at the southern edge of Chandler and Queen Creek as well as a hotspot or two at the north and south edges of the west valley, but for the most part the road infrastructure is pretty close to "done". Now we're in roughly the same situation as L.A., where we just need more lanes if we wanted to increase bandwidth on the freeways.

i'm thinking about this and i think its time for me to drop the middle finger act when someone really pissed me off at my hypermiling attempt for a RED LIGHT.

I drove in Chicago in March and while it wasn't in rush hour it wasn't that bad. They were closing a major expressway that Sat. so I bet it's really bad now. We are going back in June to see my parents outside of Chicago(near Wayne) and then staying near Wrigley field for a few days to see a ball game and taking in the sites so it'll be interesting to check out the traffic at different times then. I don't think they have any hybrids for rent either.kevin

___WayneMy take on Phoenix freeways is - don't get in the right hand lane - it will be an 'Exit Only' lane before you know it you are either having to fight to move to the left or just give up and get off, then it starts all over again. Never seen so many lane changes except for Boston - now you want to get lost - - - -
Phoenix is a Beautiful city and just a short ride to Sedona - never had road rage in Oak Creek Canyon :).

Just like 'Hot Georgia' I was suprised that we were in the 'Good' list. Most people I talk to that are from not around here, say we have the craziest drivers. Maybe it they are just not used to 'Courteous' drivers and not expecting someone slowing down to let another vehicle over etc.

When we where in PHX they had a road rage murder. A buddy of mine that lives there took me to a spot where we could watch the stack one morning. It looked like something out of the Simpson's with folks shaking the fist, yelling and screaming at each other. I saw folks running red lights like it was nothing. Just blow right thru them. I dont think folks there know what turn signals are...

I was warned about how the Mexicens drive and run out in front of cars. Its all true.

Being in PHX made me real greatful for home and our scant road rage, traffic, and aggressive driving.

A few years ago I had to go to Chicago for work. Took a cab from O'har to a Holiday Inn in Skokie. The cabby sideswiped two cars,, was jumping curbs and drove thru a hedge row at a shoping center for a short cut. Then had the nuts to try and charge me $60.00 bucks for the trip. Thats with a voucher program between the factory there I rep. The facorty pays the cab company direct and i tip $20.00 bucks. Then I get the tip back at the factory. I called the cops on the guy. Cops said welcome to Chi-town. Here cops would have hunted the loon down and thrown him under the bus.

I listen to Phil and Brent every morning on the radio here. The morning zoo is the home of Roy D. Mercer. They are Roy, Greek Theater, Weather Man dick lxyia. And countless other skits. They where talking about this rage report. After they hashed around with it on air for 30 mins or so. There list was. Dallas, PHX, Chicago, LA, and Atlanta/Miami tied for 5th.

Ive been in Dallas, PHX and Chicago in the last few years and there awful IMO. Havent been to LA, Atlanta or Miami in many years. And see no reason to go.

Similar to PHE, Miami's road rage problem may be coupled to the culture of folks living there. While attempting to keep this polite, respectful, and PC, I'll dive into the details. Hispanic culture is much more passionate, and may be perceived by the "typical" American attitude as angry, violent, or dangerous.

While actual acts of violence cannot be excused for any reason, the various instances of recorded "road rage" that concerned yelling, swearing, fist-shaking, etc., are just simply a way of life. I can say this from experience, as my cousins are from Madrid and my brother's girlfriend is a bona-fide Cuban (my family is not Hispanic).

So could Miami top the list simply because it is the fishbowl being peered into by those who don't understand fish?

These are my observations. They may be perceived to be politically incorrect, but I believe it's accurate.

I frequently pass thru a Hispanic section of my town. Often, someone will be driving even slower than a hypermiler (20-30mph). My best guess is it's a cultural thing, and in the past I've seen it in other groups that have just come to America. It's certainly not fuel efficient. A couple of times I've been annoyed to the point to going on the wrong side of the highway to pass. :(

The contrast is there is a disproportionally higher number of young Hispanic males racing above 80mph for the thrill or "machoismo" of it. Of couse there are plenty of other backgrounds doing the NASCAR thing on public roads.

Having said all this, the majority drive responsibily, but a sizeable number get my attention.
