I didn't see a direct "best fuel efficient tire" thread in a search so I started this one. Well, I guess if you wanted the best fuel efficient tires it would vary by size and application.

For my 1999 Honda Civic HX (185/65/14 tires) it seems Bridgestone B381's are best? Is this right? But these tires only come in small sizes! I need tires for my 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan and although I'm happy with the Goodyear Assurance tires I put on it 12,000 miles ago (they still look almost new), I'm wondering if there's a better tire for my Caravan in this size and category (All Season 215/65R-16).

I did a Google search for "low rolling resistance tires" and some good stuff came up too.

What do you think are best tires for my HX and Caravan? What do you ride (cars & tire) and how does it do mpgwise compared to other tires you had?

I have a set of Dunlop SP20 FE's on my Insight right now that are the same size as your Civic. They are touted as one of the best LRR tires in that size. If you want to decrease in tire width a bit you could probably fit on a set of OEM Insight tires (Bridgestone Potenza RE92 165/65/14) which are probably the lowest LRR tires made atm. Although there is a nationwide backorder atm for 6-8 weeks while Bridgestone is not producing them. I have an order in with my local tire store for the bridgestones for $62 a piece when they actually get some.

Gee, I guess I'll have to research the SP20 and RE92 for their rolling resistance rating unless you know them... But I don't want to go narrower.

I need minivan tires soon too! Anyone got minivan recommendations?

I don't have their numbers off hand, just several real world tests done by many people over at the insight forum.

If you find them I'd love to know them.

I buy all my tires and wheels from these guys and even after paying to have tires installed still save money versus buying tires locally

I got my minivan tires from the Discount Tire Shop here in Houston. But Firstone has the B381's for $85 here - no warranty. I gotta $25 off coupon I want to use too, but expires on the 31st!

Hey Blake - which Bridgestones are you getting. the RE92 or B381?

RE92, the stock Insight tires... the dealer when I got my car decided that they would just put whatever they had on hand to put on my car... which happened to be Civic tires. I wasn't to pleased with that but the tires did need replacing and the Insight tires were backordered so there wasn't much they could do about it.

There have been lots of people that tried different tires, and from what I remember, the stock Potenzas were the best for the Insight from a MPG standpoint.
Tire rack usually has them.

But the B381 is the stock tire for the Civic hybrid so it must be good too. Plus it comes in my stock width.

I'm sure it is good, but you will notice a difference with the insight tires. They are narrower which means they have less frontal area. But if you were to use them your speedo would be wrong (easy fix though)

Make sure the B381 not only is the same stock width, but same profile as well.

several people on here have recommended the 381s, which is what came stock on my HCH. however, i am not sure what happened but they starting cupping late this summer and i had to take them off. i will need to buy new in the spring when the snow tires are removed.

Maybe bad struts Laurie? My dad had a front right strut go bad on his 01 Civic (same part #) fairly quickly. When we took it off the shaft sank all the way in with no pressure!

It's a quick and easy replacement.
