View Full Version : Does a Scangauge work if U don’t have a Mass Air Flow Sensor?

I just got a DashDyno SPD and it doesn’t give instantaneous or average fuel economy on my 1999 Honda Civic HX because it doesn’t have a Mass Air Flow sensor! I contacted Auterra and they said they’re working on a different method where the Dynoscan can measure fuel economy without a Mass Air Flow sensor.

Does this same problem occur with the Scangauge? Or does the scangauge work on a car without a Mass Air flow sensor? Actually, does it work on 1996 to 2000 Honda Civics? Or the D16Y5 engine?

Here’s what Scangauge say in it’s FAQ –
http://www.scangauge.com/support/CompatibleVehicles.shtml
- probably doesn’t work if you don’t have a Manifold Absolute Pressure reading?

My Paseo has a MAP sensor, and the scangauge's instant mpg works great. Of couse my engine is on that list (under 95 Tercel).

It doesn't require a MAP sensor. Very few vehicles have that. My Yaris has none and the SGII works fine.

Almost all Hondas use speed density and have a MAP, the D16Y5 included.

According to my pdf manual my car has a MAP but no MAF. So I guess the scangauge will work?

Gee, now I'll have to buy a Scangauge 2.

I might keep the Dashdyno because they say they're working on future updates to get instantaneous FE without a MAF sensor. And since the Scangauge doesn't do data logging (is that so?) - the Dashdyno might be something worthwhile to keep. But it sure was expensive!

They are working on data logging for the scangauge 2

They are working on data logging for the scangauge 2

But if they do this won't you have to buy a brand new scangauge ? Or is it a simple software flash fix?

from my understanding its just a software flash.

I believe it should be just a firmware flash -- the hardware port is already there on the current model.

I had heard that the data logging would be done with another stand-alone unit. At one time it was expected to cost $99 for the unit.
