Anybody got any experience with them?

They've not been out long. "On paper" they seem impressive in terms of their tread design and price for the class.

Of interest to hypermilers:

I was just comparing the Altimax, Michelin Primacy MXV4 & Plot Exalto A/S, Goodyear TripleTred & Comfortred, all in H and V ratings if available.

Things that stood out with the Altimax
- max pressure, 51psi, all others were 44
- weight, 18lbs each, all others were 22 to 25lbs
- lowest revs per mile of the bunch
- lowest cost of the bunch (by far)
- road hazard warranty on them was also cheapest.

General tires have been mediocre in the past, but they have some new products out that all look pretty competitive. These tires look like they could be a good value.

If anybody has any knowledge, firsthand or anecdotal, please post.

Hi Bill:

___No experience with them but how does the customer feedback look on them over at TireRack if that is where they are sold?

___Lowest Rev’s per mile is a diameter issue.

___Also, what is the traction, temperature and wear ratings?

___Good Luck

From one of the reviews: The other disappointment is that I've lost at least 5 mpg switching from the stock Michelins to the Generals.

15 reviews on Tire Rack isn't really a sample size to put much stock in, and of course we nothing of other factors such as the customers commute, and what PSI they had them set at, and where they got their numbers from. Most other customers all seem to comment on the quietness and the traction, which is important to me. If somebody makes an LRR that's quiet with good winter traction, I'll buy it but so far it seems not to exist.

If the AH has LRR tires on it, and the replacements are not specifically LRR's, I would expect a decrease. Almost ANY car experiences an MPG decrease when you replace the OEM tires.

The Altimax RT is a T-rated omnidirectional tire whereas the Altimax HP is the H/V rated unidirectional "high performance" version.

Under Tirerack comments for the RT, there is a Jetta TDi owner (with scanguage) who reports a 5mpg gain, so now I'm even more intrigued.

I'd prefer omnidirectional, but I don't think the T rating would handle to my expectations. The comments for the RT all seem favorable though.

yes, I'am running these on my 06 Mercedes e-class cdi.....not only ar these tires quiet, they are the lightest tire on the market right now..go to Tire Rack and check it out, also made from silica so they roll forever.....mileage has improved on freeway 4 -5 miles per gallon and a little over 2 miles per gallon in the city. This is finally the tire !!!

One of my coworkers just put a set of the RTs on his VW Vanagon. They're quite impressive with their '98' load rating in size 205/70TR14. He says they give a very soft, smooth ride. I was interested in the HPs for my Wife's VW Golf...she's due for tires soon.

I have them on my Scion XB. I wasn't into hypermiling when I got them a few months ago so I don't really know if they have increased my mileage or not. They are the best tires that I have ever had for good traction.

I'm considering the RTs only becuase the HPs don't come in the size I'm looking for. My friend has the HPs and he's fairly happy with them (they ride very nicely), but he doesn't have any mpg feedback.

I need to buy tire for my daughter's 2004 Mazda 3 (205/55/R16) and am considering these General Altimax HP's. How have they been for your wife's car?

Another option is Cooper CS4 tires. Not sure which to get.

Feedback on General Altimax HP fuel economy welcome. I'm looking at the 195/60-14 for my Corolla.

Hondas have road niose but the altimax hp tire is quiet for the fisrt 2k mi. but go to my mileage log 'ma and pa' and see the april through june graph. The blk is 09 altimax and the red and yellow are 07 and 08 with Conti premier contacs. To me the General is not very good on mpgs ...... that aside I like them as does my son who has a set on an old 850 volvo but they are not very good in snow compared to winter tires. Jonathan.

Waiting on dealership to call for pick up. Just had em put on my 06' Mazda 3 and am excited to see how they drive. Bought the car used and the tires that were on it were terrible.

I have these tires. Installed on 3-15-2010. I have a few things to say about them. They are louder in the corners than my old tires. They are lighter (16lbs, 185/65-R15 HP Style) than more old set. They are rated at a higher psi, 51psi vs 44psi, than my old set. From the tire shop, they put 32psi in them. The feel was crazy soft and squishy, very high rolling resistance. I aired them up to max side wall, 51psi, and they improved, but I could tell they resistance was still higher than the old set of tires. The sidewalls are very very thin, hence the light weight and soft feel. Running the tires at 65psi improves coast down, and has less of a impact on ride quality than running my old set at 65psi. It seems no matter how much psi I pump into them, they still take the bumps just as well, probably from the super soft sidewalls. MPG wise, no change. I thought for sure with these tires, I'd see something on the positive side, I guess I should be glad my mpg didn't drop. Grip is much improved over the old tires.

The only thing I can say for sure about these tires is that I would not recommend running them under the max sidewall, just for the fact of the super soft sidewalls.
