My new reflective doodads, shown near the end of this page (http://techno-fandom.org/~hobbit/cars/dcty/),
seem to be having beneficial effects with following drivers
hanging a bit farther back without, uh, explicit encouragement.
Maybe having one's car look like a construction vehicle has
its perks... now that I've put some of those red/white strips
on my car, I'm seeing then *everywhere* else -- not only on
trucks and trailers, but stationary objects by the side of the
road, etc. I'm now rather astounded that door markers of this
sort aren't applied by manufacturers from the git-go.

The unconventional rear end on my car, including the taillight pattern (4 large circular lights spaced close together), tends to keep people from tailgating me too closely.

Very nice. I was thinking of doing something similar to the 'rolla. I haven't gotten around to it yet though.

Even in Lancaster PA there's only ONE hazard triangle on the back of a buggy.

Belt+Suspenders, impressive.

Oh, I remember my father's SAAB 99 had cat eyes reflectors on the interior of the door.

I dug up this thread from 2007 because yesterday, the conspicuity
efforts received a significant boost:

I'm seriously thinking of adding a 4 or 5 Hz brake-light pulser
to the YB circuit (http://techno-fandom.org/~hobbit/cars/yb/), too...

Hi Al:

Only a man that wears a bright yellow Hi-Viz jacket while riding a motorcycle (my wife calls it the bumble-bee outfit) can really appreciate your Prius' new look :D

A Close-up of the tapes cutaway around the gas filler door please?

And do not stop pushing the envelope either :)

Good Luck

Ask and ye shall receive: I took pix during the installation,
and now there's a webpage (http://techno-fandom.org/~hobbit/cars/dcty/bbt/) up about it that also shows how simple
it was to deal with the fuel door. One of the hardest parts
was digging up a good pic of the Banzai Institute's rocket car.
.
Techno-fandom is being a bit slow today, because it's getting
HAMMERED with uselessly repeated requests for some fairly large
files it hosts. It's all coming from APNIC blocks, and I'm
trying to figure out if it's a DoS attack or just from someone's
asian equivalent of slashdotting the material in question and
now everyone's trying to bulk-download it. Whatever's going
on, the downloads are being done in the stupidest possible way.

Thought I'd dig this up... hobbit, you've mentioned your yuppie button in the past... do you have a video of the flash pattern of your tail/brake lights? I haven't seen one here or on your website...I'm just curious to see how it looks! :D

Not as such. It was briefly shown on a myfoxboston.com segment
a few years ago, and I can't find that on their site [or my own
notes!] anymore. You can get the idea just by comparing the
difference you can see between LED based rear lights and lamp
based ones; sometimes you see the same effect on trucks that
have LED taillights but lamps in the side-marker signals.

Here you go:

You've got an embedded link directly to the FLV in that post so anyone can watch it.

My wife said that if anyone hits that car they need their eyes checked.
