Nate Bouknight, a real estate developer from East Norriton, Pa., said it now costs him about $60 to fill his Ford Explorer SUV, up about $17 from last month. The vehicle gets about 12 miles to the gallon.

Bouknight said President Bush should do more to ease the high prices, adding he thought the call for an investigation into price gouging was just a sham.

"Bush is from the oil industry, oil runs through his veins," he said.

Oh, but you don't understand. He's a real estate developer! You know, the guys with the trucks who...wait, I guess they don't haul stuff. But he has to deal with...mud! Yeah, mud! 100 feet of mud for every 1000 miles traveled! Or somthing. He needs to transport himself in an Explorer, which he must drive like an absolute freak to get 12mpg. (Should be 16-ish right?)

Meh. At the end of the day it's his choice. Gas prices aren't going away and next time he buys a vehicle it is up to him whether he wants to spend $0.25 per mile to fuel or $0.06 per mile to fuel. Sink or swim.

I guess Mommie & Daddie never got it into this guy's thick skull that you can't have it both ways. There are a lot like that. Some people like that have sued McDonalds for giving them a heart attack.

I like how he says oil runs through bush's veins. I would say to hm "Excuse me, but the only place I see oil running is into your tank."

Yeah pretty much. I just looked up the stats for the 2004 Explorer

2WD:
V6: 16/21
V8: 15/20

4WD:
V6: 15/20
V8: 15/19

A friend of mine had a couple-year old Explorer 2-door V6. It was pretty slow, but she said she got around 18 miles per gallon or so. Sounds about right, looking at the figures above. You'd have to do a lot of idling and heavy-foot driving to average 12mpg in an Explorer.

people with no morale responsiblity of how their actions affect others shouldn't drive.

Something else is odd here. The gas price and costs don't make sense to me.

The Explorer I looked up has a 22.5 gallon tank.
With gas at $3.00 a gallon, the current fill up takes 20 gallons to reach $60.

Here's what doesn't make sense to me...
For there to have been an increase of $17 since his filll up last month, using that same 20 gallons, gas prices would have had to have been just under ~$2.20 a gallon last month.
Does that seem right? Was there really an 80 cent rise in gas prices in his region? Or is it more likely that he isn't remembering his numbers correctly?

I guess some in the media don't bother checking facts. Frankly I've given up on CNN for factual news lately.

ericbecky,

Everybody is familiar with the over-the-top-demands of The Pointy Haired Bosses in Dilbert. I had such a boss that would always distort the facts in his favor. I'd bet this guy has the same problem.

The real rate of increase has been closer to $0.40/month on average.

Brick,
A 40 cent rise seems more believable.

I bet the 12 mpg figure is also from memory as opposed to actually being calculated.

Hi All:

___Today it’s just pricing. Sometime in the future, there may be shortages with gas lines the standard of the day. That is when guys and gals like these are going to be skewered at every fill.

Attendant: “Filled up and ready to go …”

Hummer/Sequoia/Expedition/whatever owner: “Thank you for the 30 gallons.”

75 others with B-, C-, and Mid-sized class sedans and hybrid’s waiting in line behind: Anybody got a gun?

___I hope it really does not come to this but sheer embarrassment may change the attitudes of many of the US populace for the benefit of all.

___Good Luck

Surprisingly, yes. A week ago, I found an old gas receipt from March 1st, 2006. The price of fuel in Orlando, FL? $2.19

Now it is at $2.89, two months later.

Man, you shoudl ship that fuel up here when its that low. I haven't seen 2.19 in a few years now I think. I think last spring it was down to 2.30 or so.

Those were the good old days. *sigh*

Southwest Airlines buys their gas well in advance, sometimes saving 50%. I don't know if they are still paying pre-Katrina prices.

I can remember filling up my old '89 Voyager minivan (20 gallon tank, 20MPG), for under $20.

I miss that. :(
