View Full Version : The $10 dollar challenge.

How much does 10 dollars get you these days? My last fill was around 9 and a half liters (2.51 gallons) and that got me at least 192 km (119.3 miles) of 70% city and 30% highway, as well I try to improve upon this number everytime since I feel the weight reduction is worth it :D

Although my gas gauge is wacked, sometimes the gas warning light comes on, and then off at certain intervals (must be because of constant change in temperature) so I've decided to try to reset my other trip odometer when that light does come on. Then maybe I'll remind myself to only drive an additional 50 km (35 miles) before attempting to fill up gas again.

Also I'm doing this to accuately recalibrate the scangauge since I messed it up real bad (and the no conversion bug from gallons to liters or vice versa doesn't help either). And besides most people realistically only put 10 and 20 dollars into their tank because they know they cannot afford to fill up when gas was like water.

So again how far can you go with 10 dollars?

Oh and I made a small database for myself, so I can print this out (both sides of the paper of course ;) and then when I'm done my drive I can just quickly jot down the numbers, what do you guys think? I think by looking at the data in this field of light allows me to predict ahead if a route I choose is good for FE or not:

When I fill up (adding all the data together)

man and i remember when gas got you a lot, these days it can barely get you home... so far its looking like a bad ten dollars although I messed the calibration again thanks to changing my tank size once again because i'm thinking my fuel mileage is calculated very wrongfully somehow I dunno sometimes the bug does piss me off. But if I had to guess i'm sitting at 30 mpg thanks to a combination of agressive acceleration. I'm pretty comfortable with coasting with the engine off whereever I go, just trying to get above 20 mpg accleration rates is tough.

Going by my best tank ever (based on $/mi at the price at the time) I got about 154mi. Based on my last tank at the current prices, I can go about 120 miles. And if I can meet my goal of 40mpg+, the the current prices of ~3.06/gal would put me at 130mi+ on $10.

This tank isn't going so great for me, either. So far I've done nothing but 30 miles of short 5mi trips in the rain, 27-30mpg in the morning and 33-36mpg on the way home. This short, cold commute is killing me! I can break 30mpg in the morning if I hit every single light but otherwise I'm drowning in gasoline.

I get about 143 miles for $10.00 in gas.

O-well

bleh 91 km (50 miles) on the odometer and the light is already on. Looks like I have to go back to filling up to full method... even if its going to cost me an additional 50 pounds.

At least I'll aim for 1000 km (600 miles) again. I hate stopping every few days for gas instead of weeks.

filled up at 98.3 km to the odometer and i pumped in 37 liters [9.77 gallons] (42 dollars canadian) [37.89 US dollars May 4th 06] I guess the warm temperature gave me some extra liters or something because last night the fuel light came on, and this morning the needle was pointed towards 1/4!

Please move this thread to the daily grind ;)
