Just curious if its possible to install the FAS module without MIMA since that would be very handy to have.

I know for fact that the car on the Insight Marathon had a FAS switch, but did not have MIMA.

Chuck is correct, but I believe that wasn't part of the MIMA package but rather a one-off solution.

Yes the FAS system will work just fine without MIMA as Chuck indicates.

There are two additional requirements to fully install the FAS without MIMA.

1. The MIMA harness has a dedicated pair of wires the runs from the ECM area to the dc/dc converter enable in the rear, Since the harness would not be installed, you would need to run a pair of wires to that same point if you wanted to keep the 12V system active and charging during FAS.

2. The brown FAS wire that goes to the AUX brown wire on MIMA would need to be connected to a momentary switch that will short it to chassis ground

For an additional charge, over the FAS MIMA option, I can make up the twisted pair of wires with plug in connectors for the DC/DC enable and provide the ground wire and brown FAS interface wire with a switch.
If you want to make your own FAS system, a full schematic is available for download.

That is what I wanted to hear :)

Thanks for making my day! I was quite sad to hear that MIMA's are potentially no longer available since you sold your last 2. I've been wanting one but sadly the lack of funds recently precluded me from purchasing one. In my mind having an easy and safe way to FAS is the best way for me to go at the moment.

I saw someone on here that had what looked like a switching contraption that fit around the shifter like a ring (somewhat) and had two switches on it. In my mind if I could rig up one of the buttons to a FAS and the other to a button that "tricked" the car into full regen then I could get by until I came up with some more money to get a MIMA... if they are ever made in the future.

I think I read that the person basically just wired in parallel a button to the brake switch and it tricked the car into full regen without actually touching the brakes. Sounds like a great mod since your getting the most out of regen without wasting any momentum to your brakes.

My Insight is an '06 so I'm not even sure if that method would work for fooling the car so more research is in order.

Mike if you would kindly give me a PM with how much it would cost for the non-mima FAS with the additional wiring and connectors I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks again!

A quick check of my users page:
http://www.99mpg.com/mima/people/
Will show one built system and 2 kit versions that are still available. I expect that if there is a continued demand, and I can get a backlog of 10 units, that I could be making another batch of 50 in the spring, all of which will be built systems, so if you like the smell of solder, the still available kits will be the last MIMA offered that way.
