I have looked into running Straight Veggy in my F350 7.3L diesel for a while now. I have a source in LA for new soy bean oil that is supposed to be a food reject(still good just not good for humans). I have done the research and found out most of the details I need to set up the truck for this. :woot:

Now the question for you guys is about emissions. I have read plenty about this but always like more input. I have read that bio/SVO is cleaner than petrol diesel, and has less of a carbon impact. I would love to get input from this crew on the subject. :)

I am hoping to put a 100 gallon tank in the bed of my truck. I will start and stop of regular diesel but run mostly on SVO/Bio. I don't drive the truck much, but when I do I tow a big trailer and get really bad mileage so reducing costs and emissions is important to me. Part of my mileage problems are from worn out parts, but thats a different subject. :D

Thanks.

Here's a good graph of the emissions impact of biodiesel vs. petrodiesel:

This appeared in one of the better articles I've seen on the subject: http://catfish.colorado.edu/~gregorys/BiodieselEmissions2.html

So (100%) Biodiesel emissions of particulates and CO are down 48% vs. Petrodiesel, hydrocarbons are down 67%, and NOx is actually up about 10%. Presumably SVO emissions would overall be similar or lower, but I don't know that for sure.

As for CO2, I'm not convinced bio or SVO is necessarily lower. Depends on the type of oil being used and how it is generated.

Well the oil I am looking at is food grade Soy Bean Oil. Don't know how that plays into this.
