‘Grab life by the horns’ now ‘Grab life’ to appeal to families, sell minivans (http://canadianpress.google.com/article/ALeqM5h0ZUYTkmHUSh-Lu6v8YULNtp0OjQ)

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. - Chrysler's new marketing chief helped launch an ad campaign for the 2008 Dodge Caravan Thursday, saying the redesigned minivan remains the "bedrock" as Dodge expands its lineup and tries to appeal to a wider audience.

"Working with these iconic American brands is probably the biggest and most exciting marketing challenge that I've been able to take part in," said Deborah Wahl Meyer, who became Chrysler LLC's vice president and chief marketing officer two weeks ago after leaving Toyota Motor Corp.'s Lexus division. The Caravan, she added, "is the bedrock of what we're really going to do."

Dodge is abandoning its muscular image and embracing a softer, family-oriented side for its most critical product launch since the new Dodge Ram appeared in 2002. In ads that begin Sunday, Dodge's signature thumping bass and the tagline "Grab Life by the Horns" will be gone, replaced with the shorter tagline "Grab Life" and sunny images that emphasize the minivan's flexible interior, high-tech gadgets and safety.

I think they exhausted their high tech capabilities after hot and cold cupholders.

No, they probably got that from somebody else because they really exhausted their technical capabilities in 1983. That was the year the Caravan was introduced to the market; the culmination of a development program that started with one sick designer winning a bet that he actually could make the K-car uglier. Who knew management wouldn't realize it was a joke?

"Grab Life by the Horns"....could that be a subliminal suggestion?

Anyway, one grab in Oklahoma got way out of hand when someone made the mistake of wearing a Longhorns T-shirt (story (http://www.ajc.com/sports/content/sports/stories/2007/09/11/footballfight_0911.html) - a bit graphic). The attacker was a church deacon, BTW.

I think the guy wearing the Longhorn T-Shirt deep in Sooner country was asking for trouble and while I'm glad he is "whole" again, probably should pay the bill out of his own pocket....you know how I feel about trolling.

No more hairnet-wearing burger flippers drooling over Hemi 4X4's? Oh, come on Chrysler, say it isn't so!

Let 'em try.
I' sure they're still interested in selling the biggest, most overpowered vehicle they can to every market segment. Looks like an image adjustment to me.

Meanwhile, other makers will be busy providing cleaner more fuel efficient vehicles for those same market segments.

I call this the difference between marketing to a segments WANTS and marketing to a segments NEEDS.

Why are all the American execs leaving Toyota anyway?

I live in the south and the ads are still the same. Tennessee is still truck country unless your in Nashville. It will be a long time before people switch here. The dodge dealer in my town has 90% trucks but I do live in a major Agricultural area.

As long as Dodge is still making the HEMI they will always have the same agenda.

Btw I was talking to a friend who just bought a new Dodge with the 3.6 or 3.8 can't remember V6 in it and he still get the same MPG as my 5.7L HEMI...thats pretty sad.

I know a few legitimate truck owners that use their truck for stuff other than moving people about 50% of the time. He just told me that the money he spends on gas the "other" 50% of the time is enough that he's looking at getting another car, just to move people. It's actually cheaper for him to buy car and truck than to keep only one truck.

most automakers right now have milked the gas cow for too long, the gas hogs are everywhere, there is not significant improvement and i for one even as an engineer find the ICE primitive, I will not just sit and speculate, but I do have ideas that I have been working on and will continue with. You mean to tell me n this day and age, where telephones have evolved at such high intensity, that cars have virtually remained the same in almost two centuries!!???
