Hello, I am new here. I have ran into links leading here from gassavers.org and liked the site so much I had to join.

I've been saving lots of gas now for about a year with my 94 geo metro 4dr hb 5spd. My 90 day average is hovering around 70-71 mpg. My wife and I have recently replaced her 98 taurus with an '08 civic lx auto. We like it so far and it has been giving her about 20 mpg (according to scangauge) better than the taurus usually averaged. We haven't ran a tank of gas thru it yet to verify the scangauge readings but her best trip so far has been aroung 44 mpg.

I will probably be asking alot of questions about the new civics since I'm new to Hondas. I'd like to give it some aero treatment similar to the civic hybrid. I love DIY mods as you will see from pics of my metro when I post some, but will have to be much neater with my wife's car :D.

thanks,
jwxr7

Welcome to CleanMPG! It's great to hear from someone who's been into the gas-saving business (well, it does make money) before gas prices spiked in the 21st century. Then again, I speak from the perspective of an individual that wasn't around to see the oil crisis of the 1970's. ;)

70 MPG in a non-hybrid is incredible! :D

Greetings from another gassaver.org member, former Honda (Civic,Accord) owner from Michigan (GR). I thought your first post sounded a bit familiar, then you linked your garage and I went "Aha!" I don't post much on either board but I read through most posts.

Hi Jwxr7:

___Not only welcome, you are doing a spectacular job in the Metro! And about the Civic, she will pick it up once you are through with her training … I just hope your marriage survives ;)

___Good Luck

thanks.
I recognize a few of you guys from gs.

I'm slowly trying to push efficiency on my wife in the car and around the house. If I want to stay married to her I need to be careful and not push it too hard ;).

She has actually started asking me about certain ways to save gas. I think keeping the scanguage on her dash encourages her to try getting better FE. With the taurus it didn't seem to matter, it was very hard to squezze good FE out of. Now she's being easily rewarded with 40+mpg trip averages and it keeps her wanting more.

Around the house I think I've got her on board with drying clothes on the line outside instead of using 7kwhrs with the electric dryer each load (as long as I help :)). She seems to be a good sport about feeding the woodburner in the winter too when I'm gone .

Hello from a fellow Michigander. Nice to know there's a group of us in Michigan. We should all meet sometime.
