I know 600 miles has already been breached, and is even within the EPA estimate, but its still not common...
I'm at 551 miles, the idiot light came on 50 miles ago so I've got 2.5gal to go safely, plus change and whatever crud's on the bottom. The gage tells me I'm sitting at 39.9mpg for the tank (my personal best so far, but we'll see when I fill up).
My drive home today is 34 miles so I gotta come up with a way to kill off 15 miles. Maybe I'll pick up the pizza tonight from a different place...**** that'll drag down the tank FE. What one will sacrifice in the pursuit of glory :)
I need to fill up tonight becasue I'm carpooling around tomorrow. So this will be a 601 mile tank, not an all-out best effort.
I tagged 50.2mpg for the drive yesterday, close-drafting a UPS truck for 23 miles out of the 34. 55mph, windows cracked 1 inch, AC off, 84deg ambient, no wind. I think that's my best-ever commute run (I only draft it it happens upon me; I don't seek it out) The best part is that the initial few miles were pretty crappy- its as if the car decided to turn it around for me!
Too bad the stations all just popped over $3/gal here. (Holding breath until sub-3 again, sometime in September)
