Hi!

I just got a 2005 Toyota Prius last weekend, pretty good deal b/c my mother works for the dealership ;)

We still have our other cars, a 2000 Camry sedan and 2000 Honda Accord coupe (both around 100,000 miles)- the plan is to sell the Accord and then maybe the Camry and my husband can get a new car.

I came to this site in a search for better FE..... I average 51, highest ever was 60. I do more highway driving though as my commute to work is approx. 20 min and no alternative route that I know of (still new to TN, moved from VA Beach a year ago.)

Welcome to CleanMPG ! I'm assuming you've been doing some reading already and know that you'll be able to get some higher numbers going on that Prius (the Camry and Accord too! ) Looking forward to some FE updates soon , they happen fast ;)

Hi D-TreeHugger:

___With a Prius in the garage, you have certainly moved onto a new path, didn’t you ;) I too cannot wait to see what you do with it as well as the Accord and Camry contingent. You will learn the Prius’ secrets and while doing so, she will teach you how to improve your FE in the other vehicles. Kind of a win-win if you ask me.

___Anyway, congrats on the Prius purchase and welcome to CleanMPG! Make sure you post the details of your Prius the next time you log on.

___Good Luck

Hi DirtyTreeHugger, it's nice to hear from you!

I understand you're on a quest for better efficiency.
I have some words of
WARNING:

Depending on the level of your quest, you might:

Change the entire view of your driving adventure
Not be able drive the same, at least not with a clear conscience
Do extreme things to improve your self-challenge
Be a calm driver, more aware of you surroundings
Say goodbye to boring, hum-drum, same old thing commutes
Not get any more speeding tickets
Save a pile of $$$ in fuel and wear-and-tear.

Speaking from personal experience, I can't think of any downside of driving more efficiently.

There is a lot of information here. As a novice, I'd only apply what you are comfortable with, at the level you are comfortable with and move on from there. If you prefer to dive right in that's OK too, but be careful and by all means ask questions.
One thing good about this topic is that we are all still learning from each other, and everyone plays a part.

Welcome to my new Northern neighbor! :Banane35:

LMAO- Steve

In the last month I went from a heavy footed 23 year old to an old woman that pisses people off for going too slow in the slow lane. Its great and my husband thinks its hysterical lol.

Welcome to CleanMPG!

I just saw you at another site trying to help out a 37mpg Prius...

We have a number of excellent Prius hypermilers...I rode with one (Dan) and he got 106mpg on the MPG Challenge....I got 60mpg on a couple of shifts driving his Prius on my first serious drive of the car. :)
