View Full Version : 1 out of 10 Men Violently Angry
Chuck 07-12-2007, 10:26 AM They now have a medical term for people with very bad tempers: intermittent explosive disorder, or IED. I'll agree that some need counciling, but suspect that most just need to get a grip on their anger. Here it comes up in a discussion of road rage. The likely solution is to give yourself enough time to get there, not get terratorial while driving, not take things too personal, avoid when possible situations that might trigger rage.

Chuck 07-12-2007, 11:54 AM I think the article was talking about things like guy kicks his dog, slaps his wife and peels off on the highway.
JimboK 07-12-2007, 01:18 PM Now that it's an official "disorder," watcha wanna bet you'll see ADA lawsuits by those "disabled" by it?
lightfoot 07-12-2007, 01:53 PM My co-worker and I get very annoyed when someone gets in the way of a really juicy coast. Or when a red light steals our momentum. Maybe we need a new term for this. Instead of "aggressive driving", maybe "aggressive coasting"?
laurieaw 07-12-2007, 02:29 PM isn't IED the same term used for roadside bombs in irag?
PaleMelanesian 07-12-2007, 02:42 PM That was my first thought, too!

Don't let IED's plant IED's
WriConsult 07-12-2007, 03:30 PM Only 1 in 10?
SpartyBrutus 07-12-2007, 06:27 PM apparently the other 9 just say "yes dear"
tarabell 07-13-2007, 03:05 PM I'm familiar with the type. In person or in a car, the behavior has no redeeming value.
DebbieKatz 07-18-2007, 09:30 AM apparently the other 9 just say "yes dear"
And there's something wrong with that? :D
locutus 07-18-2007, 10:05 AM *sigh* Another day, another part of human behavior reclassified as a "disease".
No, I'm definitely NOT saying we should act out emotions while piloting a ton of steel. What I am saying is there is a time and a place for aggression and competition, and targeting aggression in itself is misguided.

No Dear
BTW - grew up as a kid in Brookfield. Miss Friday fishfrys and parents parties in the driveway....
Fenrir 07-20-2007, 01:30 PM *sigh* Another day, another part of human behavior reclassified as a "disease".But if you call it a disease, it is easier to sell a pill to "cure" it.
