39.848 MPG in the camaro!!!!

I went 403.7 miles on 10.131 gallons of E10 RFG. I got gas after work on friday, drove to a friend's house, picked him up and we went to the U of I to visit our friend pat (laserred02)

I didnt drive at all when we were there and then we came home today, and to my suprise we only used 10.1 gal... my jaw dropped when the pump clicked off.

I did no drafting, just kept the CC at right around 60 MPH

I never thought I would hit a 40 MPG tank, but that was pretty close

Way to go Aaron! @ 40 in a Camaro is amazing .
So just the slower speed was used ? Any other techniques ? Details ! Terrain, temps etc . Do share ?

Thanks for the kind words! I'm 100% addicted to hypermiling these days

40 PSI all around
90* temps, sunny
no A/C (removed from car)
windows down, t-tops in
a fair ammount of weight reduction, including wheels, driveshaft, underdrive pulley
headers, highflow cat, 3" catback
cold air intake

rather flat interstate only a few workzones, never backed up traffic though

I couldn't really do any DWL without any hills (and not having an IFCD makes DWL a guessing game anyway)

I only parked 2 times on the tank so PP and face out parking were pretty useless

I suppose I could say I used DWB since everyone was passing me I never even thought about using the brakes :)

With tanks like this I could see myself keeping this car till the '09 model cars come out :p

Nice work ATL! Those are some pretty good numbers from an auto Camaro. I'm not sure which engine you have but, I recently drove my son's friend's '95 Camaro with the 350 V-8 and 6-speed. Ithink it could easily be a mid to upper 40's car with some TLC. Keep up the good work.

Hi Aaron:

___Nice job! Your next task will be to not only show but teach the rest of the Camaro community what their vehicles are actually capable of ;)

___Good Luck

I've been trying, however I usually get told im lying, or I don't know how to calculate it correctly.

but I'll keep on trying, I'm a member of 2 local f-body (camaro/firebird) groups and a few national forums

Sounds familiar ...stick it out . After they get through nitpicking the 1* difference in fill up angle, pump handle position and the psi in the tires etc etc ,they will give in to the cause . You don't give up, by any means .

congrats on the great tank aaron, you have met my goal now it is my turn to get to 40 in my mustang. i have the same problem when I tell the mustang guys I got 36 mpg on a tank once, and usually get 32-34 on the highway. they say i don't know how to calculate gas mileage, as if i can't divide two numbers :).

so congrats again :woot:

40 MPG in a Camaro is amazing! I could only eek out 32-33 MPG (90/10 Hwy/city) in my 5MT f-body back in the day, but that was before I found CleanMPG. ;)

32.something was my best I had ever gotten before I came here, now I get close to that on my commute to work :woot:

well you are winning for now because my last tank was 21.5 mpg, a bit disappointing. however it was 80% city and i think you were in the car for some of the less mpg oriented techniques. oh well another tank another chance to beat you!! lol :)
