This is being actively researched by ArvinMeritor.

There's a new technology that utilizes a fast-response on-board reformer to generate a small amount of hydrogen from gasoline. This hydrogen is added to the engine's normal air/fuel mixture. Engines designed to run on a mix of hydrogen/gasoline can see a fuel-economy gain of 20 to 30 percent with no requirement for control of harmful NOx emissions, oxides of nitrogen.

Here's another article about a different company trying the same thing

i heard of an addon you can buy that increases fuel economy but I thought it was a gimmick. So the science is true!

I saw this done on a research engine as an undergrad. It's no joke, NOx emissions pretty much disappear. Hydrogen has some very unique combustion properties and it isn't entirely surprising that it would have a significant effect on hydrocarbon combustion when added in low concentrations.

Hi All:

___I saw a few mentions of the same over at GCC in the last 6 to 9 months as well. The ratio control at specific output has to be well controlled from my understanding so it is not a DIY setup for most unfortunately :( The most ingenious setup I remember was an onboard electrolyzer at the induction housing but I would have to see the energy balance in great detail before any claim was to be made with that setup.

___Good Luck
