Hello,

I should have joined this group earlier, but I'm finally here. I love the challenge of maximizing my fuel economy, and I have a commute to and from work that is conducive to my quest. Last night when I came in the house after work, I exclaimed to my wife "I hit 450 miles before the gas light came on!!!" After saying that, she told me to find an internet group that would appreciate my enthusiasm. SO here I am.

I have 2000 VW Jetta with a standard 2.0 gasoline engine. It's nothing special, and it's not a lightweight car by any means, but careful driving, and manually shifting let me get between 35 and 40 MPG (in the warmer months).

I've tracked my mileage on greenhybrid.com for the past 2 years or so, and that site great, but it looks like cleanmpg has a lot more non-hybrid drivers. I hope to learn some good tips here.

Welcome to CleanMPG!

I noticed in the last day a lot of newly purchased cars in Dallas (read: not trucks) One of them was a VW Passat.

I'm glad they still make 5-speeds - IMHO they are the best gas saver after a hybrid.

Holy Cow

37 MPG in a car rated for 24 (old EPA). That's 154% of EPA.

Dude I'd love numbers like that... can't wait to hear more about it.

Welcome to CleanMPG, your off to one heck of a start.
