Hi all
I run a 2001 Saturn 4 cylinder, 5 speed stick that is rated at 27 city, 39 highway. For the last 2 months I have been driving slower, "brakeless," and coasting down hills in neutral. I am now averaging 39, up from 33.

I also tried coasting with the engine off but my mileage did not noticeably improve. I have also tried drafting behind trucks but I was expecting to see my rpms drop when I got tucked in and it didn't.

I emptied the trunk and just added air to my tires. I am dying to get 40 mi/gal. Any hints?

Welcome to CleanMPG!

Getting ScanGage could help identify what works from a fuel consumption standpoint.

Welcome! I hope you don't mind that I moved your post to its own thread to give you a proper start. Saturn drivers have done some really outstanding things with their cars and I expect you will be no different. Just give it time and don't push the new stuff too hard. The FE will come.

Welcome to CleanMPG! It's nice to see yet another Saturn owner.:) As already stated, A Scanguage will be a very useful tool in helping to increase your FE. 50 mpg tanks are quite possible with your car.

What is a scangauge--Is that a dial that shows your ongoing MPG, where do I get one?

Here is a review of the scangauge by Wayne (Xcel). It should give you an overview of what it is.
